This is not strictly a desk-based design position. You will work with equipment throughout its lifecycle—from engineering and design through assembly, testing, startup, and field support. The right candidate understands how hydraulic systems operate in real-world manufacturing environments and can methodically diagnose pressure, flow, motion, heat, leakage, and performance problems. A Fluid Power Specialist certification is strongly preferred. About THT Presses THT Presses was founded in 1977. We began by manufacturing vertical casting machines and have since evolved into a state-of-the-art engineering, technology, and development company. Innovative machinery and tooling design are hallmarks of our team of experienced electrical, mechanical, process, and program engineers. Complete vertical integration of all phases of design and manufacturing allows THT to develop and build specialized equipment from concept through completion. What You Will Do Design and develop custom vertical die casting presses, tooling, and related mechanical systems Diagnose and resolve hydraulic press performance and reliability issues Troubleshoot hydraulic components, including cylinders, pumps, valves, manifolds, accumulators, and hydraulic power units Review hydraulic schematics and use system data, measurements, and testing to identify root causes Support equipment during assembly, testing, commissioning, startup, and field operation Create and maintain 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, bills of material, and technical documentation Interpret customer specifications and translate them into practical engineering solutions Perform load calculations, stress analysis, safety-factor reviews, and machine performance evaluations Collaborate with electrical, controls, manufacturing, assembly, and service teams to ensure successful machine integration Provide technical guidance to customers and internal teams when equipment issues arise Improve machine reliability, safety, manufacturability, and long-term performance Manage assigned engineering work to meet project schedule, budget, and performance requirements Occasionally travel to customer or supplier locations—approximately 5%, with typical trips lasting three to seven days Required Qualifications Strong working knowledge of hydraulic system operation, including pressure, flow, valves, cylinders, pumps, accumulators, manifolds, and power units Four or more years of experience with hydraulic equipment, custom machinery, heavy industrial equipment, or engineered-to-order systems Demonstrated hands-on experience troubleshooting hydraulic press systems Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field; an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience may be considered Experience diagnosing complex mechanical and hydraulic equipment problems and determining root causes Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation Proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software Understanding of machine design principles, structural analysis, and manufacturing processes Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with customers and cross-functional teams Preferred Qualifications Certified Fluid Power Specialist (CFPS) or comparable fluid power certification Experience with hydraulic systems, die casting machines, metal-forming equipment, or other large industrial machinery Experience supporting equipment commissioning, field service, installation, or customer startup activities Familiarity with machining, welding, fabrication, and mechanical assembly Knowledge of ANSI, OSHA, CE, or other applicable machinery and safety standards
