Job Description Job Summary Vertiv is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support the IT Solutions engineering team in the design, development, and validation of rack- and row-based infrastructure products supporting high-density compute and AI-driven data center applications. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience with CAD modeling, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), engineering drawings, and tolerance analysis while supporting senior engineers through the new product development lifecycle. You will work in a fast-paced, growing business unit building next-generation data center infrastructure. You will work cross-functionally with global engineering, product management, and manufacturing teams, playing a key role in driving innovation, interoperability, and system-level performance in a fast-paced New Product Development (NPD) environment.   • Create and update 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD tools (Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent)
  • Assist with mechanical design reviews and provide feedback on component and system designs
  • Support Bill of Material (BOM) creation and maintenance
  • Develop manufacturing-ready documentation with proper GD&T callouts 2.Analysis & Validation
  • Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for structural and thermal validation of components and assemblies
  • Conduct tolerance analysis and stack-up studies to ensure fit and function across system interfaces
  • Support prototype builds and validation testing in the engineering lab
  • Document analysis results and test findings with clear, thorough reporting 3.Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work alongside senior mechanical, electrical, and thermal engineers on integrated system designs
  • Participate in cross-functional design reviews and team meetings
  • Support manufacturing and production teams during factory integration activities
  • Collaborate with sourcing and supplier teams on component specifications 4.Learning & Development
  • Gain exposure to industry compliance standards and design-for-manufacturing principles
  • Learn system-level mechanical architecture for rack- and row-based infrastructure
  • Develop problem-solving skills through real-world engineering challenges
  • Present project results and findings at internship showcase events Qualifications Required
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or related field
  • Completed at least sophomore year of coursework
  • Foundational understanding of statics, dynamics, materials, and thermodynamics
  • Experience with 3D CAD software (Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent)
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work hands-on in a lab environment
  • Effective communication skills - written and verbal
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and ask questions Preferred
  • Coursework or project experience in FEA, GD&T, or tolerance analysis
  • Familiarity with sheet metal design and manufacturing processes
  • Exposure to thermal management or structural design
  • Experience with simulation tools (ANSYS, Creo Simulate, or similar)
  • Previous co-op, internship, or project experience in a hardware engineering environment What We're Looking For
