is currently seeking candidates for Research Engineer positions covering a wide breadth of focus areas and levels of expertise within the Mechanical Systems Group and elsewhere within AFRL. The Mechanical Systems Group focuses on cutting edge bearing and lubrication technologies that have an immediate impact to the warfighter, as well as fundamental research pertaining to tribology, fatigue, and advanced bearing design. The group's research can be applied to turbine engines for manned and unmanned aerial systems (UAS). Qualified candidates will have interest and relevant experience in mechanical design, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, materials and tribology. Primary Responsibilities Include- Design, setup, and conduct engine mechanical system-related research experiments
- Operate first-class engine test facilities to produce high-quality engine performance data
- Select, install, and utilize state-of-the art instrumentation to make precise measurements
- Program computer software to reduce and analyze experimental data and present conclusions
- Author technical papers and attend technical conferences to brief current research Skills & Experience Desired
- Hands-on experience in the application of engineering theory and practice through technical projects
- Demonstrated ability to work strongly with a team as well as individually as a self-starter
- Strength in computer programming as well as Matlab, Python, and 3D CAD - FEA and CFD also desired
- Familiarity with hand tools, machine tools, metal fabrication, and advanced manufacturing techniques
- Experience with data acquisition equipment, software, and instrumentation
- Hands-on with bearings, design tolerance and turbine engines
- Exposure to electric motors and drive systems
- Ability to troubleshoot basic digital and analog electronic circuits
- Proficiency in communicating technical content in writing as well as oral briefings Education BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering Compensation Commensurate with level of education and amount of relevant experience Benefits
