Job Description

Job Title:
Mechanical Engineer - Aerospace Component Design and Repair Job Description This role focuses on mechanical design and repair engineering for aerospace components in a Component Repair Station (CRS) environment. The Mechanical Engineer develops and optimizes mechanical designs, creates detailed CAD models and engineering drawings, and supports repair engineering activities across the full lifecycle of mechanical and electromechanical components. The position integrates advanced R D, digital design and manufacturing (DDM), and reverse engineering to deliver cost‑effective, compliant repair solutions that extend component life and modernize repair processes. Responsibilities Develop and optimize mechanical designs for aerospace components, ensuring compliance with applicable aerospace standards and quality requirements. Create detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using SolidWorks to support new designs, repairs, and modifications. Support repair engineering activities within a Component Repair Station (CRS) environment, including repair development for mechanical and electromechanical components. Perform reverse engineering of existing components to enable repair, redesign, or improvement of form, fit, and function. Lead and contribute to research and development initiatives to create new repair methods, tooling, fixtures, and prototype components. Apply digital design and manufacturing (DDM) workflows to streamline repair processes, reduce turnaround time, and improve manufacturability. Conduct comprehensive failure analysis on components to identify root causes, document findings, and recommend corrective and preventive actions. Prepare high‑quality engineering documentation, including repair instructions, deviation requests, technical reports, and engineering change documentation. Collaborate closely with operations, quality, supply chain, and regulatory teams to ensure compliance with
FAA/EASA
Part 145 requirements and aerospace quality standards such as AS9100 and
ISO 9001.
Design custom tooling and fixtures to support repair and manufacturing operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and repeatable processes. Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and digital design and manufacturing principles to enhance efficiency and reduce cost. Support and participate in engineering change management processes to control design updates, repairs, and process changes. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, reliability, cost reduction, and process optimization in the repair and manufacturing environment. Coordinate and manage engineering tasks and small projects, applying project management practices to meet schedule, quality, and technical objectives. Essential Skills Proven mechanical engineering experience with strong aerospace component design expertise. Hands‑on experience working in a Component Repair Station (CRS) or closely related repair environment. Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings. Strong background in mechanical and electromechanical component design and optimization. Experience with repair engineering, including development of repair schemes and technical dispositions. Proficiency in reverse engineering to recreate or improve existing components and assemblies. Practical understanding of manufacturing processes and how they influence design and repair decisions. Experience with engineering change management processes and documentation. Ability to prepare clear, accurate engineering documentation, including repair instructions, deviation requests, and technical reports. Familiarity with aerospace quality standards such as AS9100 and
ISO 9001.
Ability to collaborate effectively with operations, quality, supply chain, and regulatory teams. Strong analytical skills to perform failure analysis and recommend corrective actions. Solid project management capabilities to plan, prioritize, and execute engineering tasks. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in an aerospace environment, particularly with
FAA/EASA
Part 145 repair station requirements. Exposure to or experience with SolidWorks PDM for product data management. Familiarity with D365 or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. background in research and development (R D) for new products, repair methods, or process innovations. Experience in oil and gas, mechanical design, or new product development environments. Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and digital design and manufacturing (DDM) principles. Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) for structural evaluation and design validation. Exposure to additive manufacturing technologies and their application to repair, tooling, or prototyping. Experience in tooling and fixture design to support manufacturing and repair processes. Understanding of reliability engineering principles and their application to improving component performance and life. Formal education in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. Work Environment The role operates in a Component Repair Station (CRS) and advanced engineering environment focused on aerospace components. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams in operations, quality, supply chain, and regulatory compliance, using tools such as SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, and enterprise systems like D365. The work involves a mix of office‑based engineering tasks, such as CAD modeling, documentation, and analysis, and close collaboration with shop‑floor repair and manufacturing activities where tooling, fixtures, and repair methods are developed and implemented. The environment emphasizes adherence to aerospace quality standards, structured engineering change management, and continuous improvement in repair processes, turnaround time, and manufacturability.
