Job Title:
Mechanical Designer Job Description The Mechanical Designer works closely with a Project Engineer to evaluate, analyze, and design mechanical systems for construction projects. This role translates engineering concepts into accurate, coordinated, and detailed drawings and documentation that support estimating, procurement, and installation activities. You collaborate with cross-functional teams, apply core engineering principles, and contribute to high-quality mechanical designs for building and infrastructure projects. Responsibilities Collaborate with the Project Engineer to evaluate, analyze, and design mechanical systems for construction projects. Translate engineering concepts and design intent into accurate, detailed, and coordinated drawings and documentation. Develop mechanical layouts and system designs using AutoCAD and/or Revit. Prepare design documents that support estimating, procurement, and installation activities. Apply HVAC software to assist with calculations, equipment selections, and system analysis. Incorporate applicable construction codes, standards, and regulations into mechanical designs. Coordinate mechanical system designs with other disciplines to help ensure constructability and minimize conflicts. Participate in design reviews and project meetings to support project planning and execution. Assist with field and construction site visits to gather information, verify existing conditions, and support design implementation. Communicate clearly with project team members to resolve design issues and provide timely updates on progress. Essential Skills Associate's or Bachelor's degree in engineering (AS or BS in engineering). 2-4 years of experience in mechanical design or construction. Experience using AutoCAD or Revit for mechanical and MEP design. HVAC software experience for calculations and system design. Exposure to construction codes, standards, and regulations related to mechanical systems. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work in both office and construction site environments. Valid Pennsylvania driver's license to support travel to project sites. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with MEP design and coordination. Ability to interpret and produce detailed construction drawings and specifications. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate documentation. Comfort working collaboratively with engineers, designers, and field personnel. Interest in growing technical skills in HVAC and mechanical system design within a construction-focused environment. Work Environment This role is primarily based in an office environment, where you use design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and HVAC tools to develop mechanical system drawings and documentation. You also make occasional visits to active construction sites to verify existing conditions, support design implementation, and coordinate with field teams. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Harrisburg, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $36.06/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
