Job Description

Job Title:
Design Release Engineer - NFC / Key Fob Modules Job Description This role focuses on the development and release of NFC and key fob hardware, software, and systems for automotive applications. You will own a defined subset of components and requirements, lead technical reviews with internal and external stakeholders, and ensure that all regulatory, legal, and RF certification requirements are met. The position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams and suppliers to deliver robust, compliant, and high-quality NFC reader and key fob systems from concept through launch. Responsibilities Develop new NFC and key fob hardware, software, and systems for automotive applications. Work with the lead engineer to take responsibility for a defined subset of parts and system requirements. Lead design reviews with internal engineering teams and external partners, including suppliers, to ensure technical alignment and design quality. Create, maintain, and review quality and technical documentation to support design, validation, and release activities. Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and legal requirements, including FMVSS, ECE, and other applicable standards, as well as RF certification and homologation requirements. Optimize the packaging of receiver modules to achieve robust RF reception and performance within vehicle constraints. Develop and execute design verification plans (DVP) for NFC reader and key fob systems on bench, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), and in-vehicle environments according to program milestones and requirements such as DCV, PEC, and FEC. Track and manage design and test issues in FEDE and JIRA, ensuring timely resolution and clear documentation. Manage parts release in WERS, ensuring accurate and complete data for production and service. Support vehicle programs through launch by leading issue resolution activities and presenting status, risks, and mitigation plans to management. Collaborate with Chassis and Vehicle Operations teams to ensure interface, process, and assembly requirements are clearly defined and met. Travel to supplier facilities and assembly plants as needed to support design reviews, builds, and launches of new products, including activities related to APQP and PPAP approvals. Support additional engineering and release tasks such as
FEDE BOM
management, DBC file creation and maintenance, Device Transmittals, VSCS, EDT and Mountain Charts, and ESOW documentation. Essential Skills Minimum of 2 years of experience in the design and testing of automotive electrical systems, including hardware, software, and systems. Hands-on experience with design and release (D&R) of automotive modules, with at least 2 years of relevant module experience. Proficiency with vehicle network tools, including CANalyzer, for development, testing, and troubleshooting. Experience in automotive product development and product management processes. Practical experience with APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) in an automotive environment. Ability to develop and execute design verification plans (DVP) for electronic systems on bench, HIL, and in-vehicle test environments. Working knowledge of regulatory and legal requirements for automotive systems, including FMVSS, ECE, and RF certification and homologation considerations. Strong documentation skills for creating and reviewing quality and technical documents. Bachelor's degree in engineering (BS Engineering) or an equivalent technical discipline. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with development and testing of wireless technology, particularly in automotive or embedded systems, is preferred. Wireless product experience related to NFC, key fob, or RF-based systems is a plus. Familiarity with tools and systems such as FEDE, JIRA, WERS, and related engineering release and tracking systems. Experience working with BOM (Bill of Materials) in FEDE and managing DBC files and Device Transmittals. Exposure to VSCS, EDT and Mountain Charts, and ESOW documentation is beneficial. Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, particularly with Chassis, Vehicle Operations, and supplier engineering teams. Ability to lead technical discussions and present design and launch status to stakeholders and management. Willingness and ability to travel to supplier facilities and assembly plants as needed to support design reviews, builds, and launches. Work Environment The role operates in a professional automotive engineering environment that combines office-based design and analysis with lab, bench, HIL, and in-vehicle testing activities. You will work extensively with electronic modules, NFC readers, key fobs, and vehicle network tools such as CANalyzer, as well as engineering systems including FEDE, JIRA, and WERS. The position involves collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams, suppliers, and plant personnel, and may require periodic travel to supplier sites and vehicle assembly plants to support design reviews, builds, and launches. Work is aligned with structured automotive product development processes such as APQP and PPAP, with activities paced by defined program milestones and launch schedules. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Dearborn, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $46.00 - $50.66/hr.
