Job Description

Position Summary We are seeking a Mechanical Designer to join our team. This position will be responsible for designing custom automation equipment, fixtures, nests, tooling, and machine components using SolidWorks. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated problem solver who understands manufacturing processes and can develop practical designs that can be efficiently built in a machine shop environment. This is a hands-on role that works closely with machinists, electricians, programmers, and customers throughout the design and build process. Responsibilities Design custom automation equipment and machinery using SolidWorks Design fixtures, nests, tooling, and workholding solutions Create detailed manufacturing drawings and bills of materials Develop machine layouts and mechanical assemblies Work with customers and project managers to define project requirements Collaborate with shop personnel to improve manufacturability and assembly efficiency Assist with prototype development, machine testing, and troubleshooting Modify and improve existing machine designs as needed Support projects from concept through final installation Qualifications and Preferred Skills Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software Understanding of mechanical design principles General Knowledge of machining, fabrication, and manufacturing processes Ability to create clear manufacturing drawings and documentation Strong problem-solving and communication skills Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities Bonus Experience Custom automation or machine design Pneumatics and motion control systems Industrial manufacturing environments Weldment design CNC machining knowledge Reverse engineering Education & Experience We welcome applicants ranging from recent graduates and entry-level CAD designers to experienced mechanical designers and engineers. Backgrounds that may be a good fit include: Mechanical Design Technology Mechanical Engineering Technology Mechanical Engineering Industrial Technology CAD Drafting & Design Relevant manufacturing or machine-building experience The position can be tailored to the candidate's experience level. Entry-level candidates may initially focus on drafting, detailing, and supporting senior designers, while experienced candidates may lead projects from concept through installation. Equivalent hands-on experience may be considered in place of formal education. Experience Level We are open to candidates with a wide range of experience levels, from entry-level CAD designers looking to begin a career in machine design to experienced mechanical designers seeking an opportunity to work on challenging custom automation projects. Compensation and responsibilities will be based on experience, skill level, and demonstrated capabilities. The successful candidate will have opportunities for growth and increasing responsibility within the organization.
