Job Description
A Mechanical Designer job is currently available through PRADCO. You will take an idea — whether from a field technician, engineer, customer, or their own observation — and turn it into a clear, buildable, and installable design. This is not a role for someone who needs step-by-step direction. This is for someone who can look at 40-year-old drawings, understand how a precipitator was originally built, and design the upgrade that will make it work better today. You will work closely with engineers, field service teams, and customers to create mechanical designs for ESP upgrades, retrofits, and new components that must function in harsh industrial environments. Reporting to the Senior Mechanical Engineer, this position provides an immersive experience in the world of mechanical engineering, with the potential to lead to advanced roles within the company. Our client is a specialized engineering and consulting firm focused on upgrading, optimizing, and troubleshooting electrostatic precipitators (ESPs) for heavy industry including power generation, cement, steel, pulp & paper, and mining. Our work improves reliability, performance, and environmental compliance for some of the most demanding industrial applications in North America. We are not a high-volume design shop. We are a problem-solving company. Our projects involve modernizing aging equipment, adapting designs to real-world plant constraints, and turning field ideas into practical, installable solutions.
Qualifications:
Degree not required. Candidates with experience are strongly encouraged to apply regardless of educational background Foundation in mechanical engineering principles and design concepts. Experience with CAD software, especially AutoCAD. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a hybrid collaborative team environment. Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges.Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Create detailed mechanical designs and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD (primary) and SolidWorks (secondary) Interpret and convert legacy drawings (often decades old) into modern, usable design files Design ESP components and retrofit solutions including: Internal rapping systems Electrode and plate modifications Support steel and access platforms Enclosures, hoppers, and duct transitions Custom mechanical adaptations for controls and electrical retrofits Translate field sketches, concepts, and redlines into accurate drawings Ensure designs are practical for field installation and maintenance Collaborate with field teams to refine designs based on real-world conditions Work independently in a hybrid environment with minimal supervision Support proposal development with conceptual layouts and sketches Maintain organized drawing files and revision control Travel required (U.S. and Canada) in field to visit customers on as needed basis to support your onboarding and specific project understanding.Job Type:
