Job Title:
Mechanical Designer / Mechanical Project EngineerJob Description This full-time Mechanical Designer / Mechanical Project Engineer role focuses on the design, modeling, and drafting of building mechanical systems for construction projects. You will collaborate closely with project engineers, project managers, senior staff, and other disciplines to deliver high-quality mechanical designs that meet national, state, and local building and energy codes. The position is primarily office-based with a limited hybrid schedule, offering the opportunity to contribute to all phases of design, engineering, and production while developing your technical expertise and professional credentials. Responsibilities + Collaborate with project engineers, project managers, senior staff, and multi-discipline design teams to deliver coordinated building mechanical designs. + Participate in the daily design, engineering, and production of mechanical project deliverables, including drawings, models, and documentation. + Design, model, and draft building mechanical systems such as HVAC and related mechanical components using Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD. + Coordinate mechanical designs with other trades and disciplines to ensure fully integrated building systems. + Apply national, state, and local building codes, energy codes, and industry standards to mechanical system design and documentation. + Prepare and revise mechanical drawings, models, and specifications using Revit, AutoCAD, and commonly used engineering software. + Use Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam Revu to support calculations, reports, markups, and project documentation. + Contribute to problem-solving and decision-making throughout the design process, providing analytical input to optimize system performance. + Communicate clearly with team members and stakeholders through written reports, emails, and verbal discussions. + Maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude and support a collaborative, professional work environment. Essential Skills + Bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering. + 1-5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, ideally with building mechanical design experience, or equivalent experience gained through recent graduation and relevant coursework or internships. + Proficiency in Autodesk Revit for modeling and drafting mechanical systems. + Proficiency in AutoCAD for mechanical design and drafting. + Experience with Microsoft Office Suite for documentation, calculations, and communication. + Experience with Bluebeam Revu and other commonly used engineering software. + Strong work ethic and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multi-discipline design team. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills. + Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills. + Positive, team-oriented attitude. + Familiarity with national, state, and local building codes, energy codes, and industry standards. + Experience in the design, modeling, and drafting of building mechanical systems, including HVAC. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Engineer-in-Training (EIT) status or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred but not required. + Additional certifications such as LEED AP or WELL AP preferred but not required. + Background or interest in HVAC and mechanical system design for buildings. + Ability to manage time effectively and contribute to multiple projects in a fast-paced design environment. + Interest in ongoing professional development and staying current with evolving codes, standards, and industry best practices. Work Environment The role is primarily office-based with a limited hybrid schedule, allowing a combination of in-office and remote work as project needs permit. You will work in a collaborative, multi-discipline design environment alongside project engineers, project managers, and senior staff. Daily work involves the use of Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam Revu, and other engineering software tools to produce detailed mechanical models and construction documents. The setting emphasizes teamwork, clear communication, and a positive, professional atmosphere focused on delivering high-quality building mechanical designs that comply with applicable codes and standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Charlotte, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $58.00/hr.
