Work Locations:

5230 S. Carter Rd., Auburn, MI 48611 (60% of the time) 29930 Hudson Dr. Novi, MI 48377 (20% of the time) Position may telecommute/work remotely 20% of the time

Job Duties:

Responsible for component design and development of automotive chassis systems and sub-systems, including steering gear components, to meet design, packaging, structural, technical, and performance requirements. Develop/coordinate steering gear component design for regional applications. Responsible for customer communication of mechanical design and development. Create and manage BOM (Bill of Materials), complete 2D drawings, and perform 3D math data. Support program with design studies and changes, including information exchange with customers and leading VAVE activities. Create new mechanical/component designs or develop new suppliers. Analyze customer mechanical/system requirements and preparing gap analysis. Negotiate technical specifications and requirements with customer. Prepare tech review materials and present design proposals to internal and customer teams. Prepare vehicle packaging studies and negotiate designs/tradeoffs with the OEM. Coordinate prototype components and builds to support customer/internal deliveries. Perform design analysis using design tools including

CATIA V5

for DFMEA, DRBFM, FEA, CAE, and other design activities. Develop test procedures and specifications with the validation team to support/meet customer requirements. Participate with cross-functional teams in the APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) process throughout product development. Assure design for manufacturability and coordinate production readiness with manufacturing engineering team. Participate in new business pursuit activities for HL Mando products. Communicate with core mechanical design teams. Develop and maintain timing of engineering tasks to support program milestones. Support warranty part analysis as required to determine root cause.

Requirements:

Master's degree or foreign academic equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field. Plus 5 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation including Design Engineer, Design Specialist, or related experience. Will accept a Bachelor's degree plus 7 years of progressive experience in lieu of the required education and experience. CATIA V5.
