Remote Mechanical Engineer -Piping Systems Salary Range:
Open based on experience level ($90K-$180K) Job Description This role offers an opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to design and develop piping systems for industrial and process facilities. You will perform system sizing and calculations, prepare piping layouts and drawings, conduct stress analysis, develop specifications, and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective designs that support a wide range of industrial applications. Responsibilities + Design and develop piping systems for a variety of industries, including metals manufacturing, heavy industrial and light manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and food and beverage facilities. + Perform engineering calculations for pipe sizing, pressure drops, and material requirements to ensure safe and efficient system performance. + Prepare piping layouts, P&IDs, isometric drawings, plans, and elevation drawings to clearly communicate design intent. + Ensure all piping designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices. + Support the specification and selection of piping components and materials appropriate for different fluids and operating conditions. + Conduct and document pipe stress calculations and analysis using software tools, as needed, to validate system integrity. + Provide site support for field verification, walk-downs, and construction troubleshooting, including documenting existing conditions in manufacturing environments. + Assist with commissioning and startup activities to help ensure systems operate as designed and meet project requirements. + Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, electrical, structural, and automation professionals, to integrate piping designs into overall project solutions. + Manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment. + Communicate clearly with internal teams and external stakeholders, contributing to problem-solving and continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle. Essential Skills + Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering. + 3+ years of experience designing and sizing piping systems across various industries. + Proven ability to design piping systems for industrial and process facilities, including metals manufacturing, heavy industrial and light manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and food and beverage applications. + Demonstrated experience calculating pipe sizing, pressure drops, and material requirements. + Proficiency in generating P&IDs, isometric drawings, plans, and elevation drawings. + Proficiency in Revit Additional Skills & Qualifications + Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) licensure. + Experience performing pipe stress calculations and analysis using specialized software tools. + Experience using Revit software for 3D modeling of piping systems. + Experience using Plant3D software for piping design and coordination. Work Environment The role is based within a dynamic, multidisciplinary engineering environment that integrates mechanical, electrical, structural, and systems automation expertise. You will work on consulting projects that range from standard designs to unique, complex assignments, drawing on deep industry knowledge to deliver practical and innovative solutions. You will regularly interact with cross-functional teams and may spend time in industrial and manufacturing facilities performing field verification, walk-downs, and construction support. The work involves both office-based design using tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Plant3D, and on-site activities in active industrial environments. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Reading, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
