Job Title:
Test Engineer - Level 2 Job Description The Test Engineer - Level 2 will design, develop, and implement testing methods and equipment to support complex products and systems. This role plans and coordinates labor schedules and test equipment for evaluating both standard and specialized devices, compiles and analyzes test data, and recommends changes to testing equipment, procedures, manufacturing processes, or new testing requirements. The Test Engineer will handle testing of customer samples and perform special tests that cannot be conducted in the standard test area, ensuring high-quality, reliable results that meet internal and external customer expectations. Responsibilities Design, develop, and implement test methods and test equipment for standard and special devices. Plan and arrange labor schedules, test setups, and equipment required for product testing and evaluation. Perform product testing in close collaboration with all parts of the operating unit, including test planning, coordinating setup, execution, data reduction, test reporting, and post-data processing. Integrate products with test tooling, software, equipment, and instrumentation to ensure accurate and efficient testing. Collect test data, conduct post-test data review, and prepare clear and comprehensive test reports. Support verification of test requirements and ensure test activities comply with defined specifications and standards. Create and maintain technical documentation and test procedures through effective technical writing. Participate in and present test plans, results, and findings in internal and external customer reviews. Leverage modern tools, test automation, and lean testing methodologies to reduce the cost and schedule of product testing. Troubleshoot test equipment, test tooling, and test harnesses to resolve issues and maintain test readiness. Measure and control electronic components such as motors, actuators, positional sensing devices, and load transducers as needed for product testing. Collaborate with operations and test engineering teams to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost expectations across the product value stream. Organize and prioritize assignments and tasks to meet project timelines and customer commitments. Work independently and as part of an integrated team, adapting to changing requirements and dynamic project environments. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline and at least 2 years of test experience. Hands-on experience troubleshooting test equipment, test tooling, and test harnesses. Experience with testing automation or other lean manufacturing and testing methodologies. Demonstrated technical writing skills, including the ability to develop clear test procedures and documentation. Ability to travel between sites in California and to customer locations as needed, approximately 10%. Strong communication skills, including presentation, oral, written, and listening abilities. Ability to organize and prioritize job assignments and tasks effectively. Capability to work independently as well as within an integrated, cross-functional team. Adaptability to change and dynamic test and product requirements. Proficiency with collaboration and workflow tools such as Jira and Confluence. Additional Skills & Qualifications 3+ years of specific test engineering experience is preferred. Demonstrated proficiency in test automation software such as LabVIEW or similar tools for product testing is preferred. Experience measuring and controlling electronic components including motors, actuators, positional sensing devices, and load transducers is preferred. Experience in the aerospace or aeronautical industry is preferred. Self-motivated mindset with a strong sense of ownership and initiative. Experience leveraging modern tools and methods to improve test efficiency and reduce cost and schedule. Ability to present technical information clearly to internal teams and external customers. Work Environment This position is based in Oxnard, California and involves working in a hands-on engineering and test lab environment with exposure to test equipment, instrumentation, and electronic components. The role requires integration of products with test tooling, software such as LabVIEW, and collaboration tools including Jira and Confluence. The Test Engineer must be able to support multiple shifts, including a first shift from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and a second shift from approximately 2:30 p.m. to midnight, depending on operational needs. Occasional travel, estimated at around 10%, is required between company sites in California and to customer locations to support test activities and reviews. The work setting emphasizes safety, quality, and collaboration, with a focus on continuous improvement in test processes and efficiency. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Oxnard, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $74.00/hr.
