Job Title:
R D Mechanical Engineer Job Description We are seeking a hands-on, curious, and proactive R D Mechanical Engineer to join our team in developing specialized machine guarding solutions for industrial customers. This role is perfect for those who enjoy solving real-world engineering challenges, learning new tools and technologies, and working closely with technical leadership to bring innovative safety products to life. You will support the Director of R D in designing, testing, and refining custom guarding systems, contributing both creative ideas and practical engineering execution. Responsibilities Support the Director of R D in developing specialized machine guarding solutions tailored to customer applications. Create and modify 2D and 3D models for product concepts, prototypes, and production-ready designs. Assist in engineering analysis, feasibility studies, and product simulations. Participate in hands-on prototyping, testing, and validation of new designs. Collaborate with manufacturing, sales, and customer support teams to ensure solutions meet performance, safety, and cost requirements. Document design changes, test results, and engineering decisions clearly and accurately. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the R D department. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field. Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to work hands-on with prototypes and testing equipment. Proactive mindset with a strong desire to learn, explore, and solve problems. Experience with AutoCAD or similar 2D drafting tools. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, Fusion 360). Exposure to simulation tools (FEA, motion analysis, or similar). Familiarity with industrial safety standards or machine guarding principles. Entry-level engineers with internships will be considered. New product development experience. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Portland, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $38.46/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
