Job Description

Job Overview McCourt Equipment is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering team. This position will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical equipment, components, and systems that support our aggregate, material processing, and equipment operations. This is a hands-on engineering role that works closely with our Sales, Service, Parts, and Operations teams , as well as vendors and fabricators, to take projects from initial concept through design, fabrication, installation, and operation. The ideal candidate is practical, detail-oriented, and able to turn real-world equipment needs into safe, functional, and manufacturable designs. This position requires someone who is comfortable working both at a desk and around heavy equipment to understand how designs will actually be built, installed, serviced, and used in the field. Responsibilities Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, structures, and equipment using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software . Create detailed fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, layouts, and bills of materials. Develop and modify designs for aggregate processing equipment, conveyors, structures, platforms, guarding, chutes, and other equipment-related applications. Work with Sales and Operations to understand customer requirements and develop practical equipment solutions. Work closely with Service and Parts to incorporate field experience, serviceability, and maintenance needs into equipment designs. Review existing equipment and designs to identify opportunities for improvement, modification, or repair. Verify dimensions, fitment, tolerances, materials, and component specifications before drawings are released for fabrication. Assist with troubleshooting equipment or design-related issues during fabrication, assembly, installation, and operation. Coordinate with vendors, manufacturers, and fabricators to ensure designs can be produced accurately and efficiently. Review completed fabrication and equipment installations as needed to verify design intent. Maintain accurate drawings, revisions, specifications, and other engineering documentation. Assist with project planning, scheduling, and communication to help keep engineering projects moving forward. Visit jobsites, customer locations, manufacturing facilities, and equipment installations as needed. Support continuous improvement of McCourt Equipment's products, processes, and engineering standards. Perform other engineering projects and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field. Experience in mechanical design, manufacturing, fabrication, heavy equipment, or a related industrial environment preferred. Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software . Ability to create and interpret detailed mechanical and fabrication drawings. Understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, tolerances, welding, fabrication, and manufacturing processes. Knowledge of GD&T and applicable engineering/drafting standards preferred. Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills. Ability to troubleshoot equipment and design issues and develop practical solutions. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. Ability to communicate effectively with employees across Engineering, Sales, Service, Parts, and Operations, as well as customers and outside vendors. Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of a team. Experience with aggregate, mining, construction, heavy equipment, conveyors, or material handling systems is a plus. Willingness to travel to customer sites, jobsites, and vendor/manufacturing locations as needed. What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who combines strong engineering fundamentals with a practical, hands-on mindset . At McCourt, a successful design isn't just something that works on paper—it needs to be something that can be built, installed, operated, maintained, and serviced in the real world. The Mechanical Design Engineer will have the opportunity to work directly with equipment and the people who sell, operate, repair, and support it while helping McCourt develop practical solutions for our customers. Join the McCourt Equipment team and help us design solutions that keep our customers and their equipment moving.
