Job Description

Mechanical Principal Engineer Mechanical Engineering leads and delivers the development of innovative and compliant mechanical design solutions, as well as cross-functional interfaces for desktop, portable and server computer systems and peripherals. Our team conducts the analysis, feasibility studies and testing of mechanical products, instruments, subassemblies and packaging for new and existing products - and then oversees the introduction of design changes to the manufacturing organizations. What you'll achieve: As a Principal Engineer, you will own complex mechanical designs, conduct detailed analyses, and prepare test plans to validate function, reliability, and compliance. You will coordinate with manufacturing to optimize DFM/DFS and resolve build issues. You will document decisions and lessons learned to strengthen standards and reuse. Here's what we are looking for with this role: Essential Requirements 8+ years of experience in electro‑mechanical product development or equivalent skill Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as Creo or SolidWorks for designing sheet metal, plastics, and die‑cast components Knowledge of cooling technologies, with emphasis on liquid cooling and rack‑level thermal components Ability to interpret technical data sheets Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools Desirable Requirements Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Experience designing high‑density IT rack solutions for data centers Compensation Dell is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base salary range for this position is $136,000-$187,000 You will: Partner closely with cross‑functional engineering teams to develop innovative, customer‑centric solutions Use 3D CAD tools to design sheet metal, plastic, die‑cast, and other complex components and assemblies Develop, prototype, and evaluate new mechanical concepts for feasibility and performance Work directly with suppliers, manufacturing, quality, and tooling teams to bring designs from concept to production
