Our engineers develop innovative solutions that operate in demanding environments and support missions across the globe. As an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of UAS platforms, we are at the forefront of aerospace innovation, rapid product development, and advanced manufacturing. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to join our growing engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer who is passionate about aerospace systems, enjoys hands-on problem solving, and wants to contribute directly to the development, testing, and production of next-generation drone platforms. Job Summary As a Mechanical Engineer I, you will support the design, development, testing, and release of mechanical systems used in unmanned aircraft, payloads, and ground support equipment. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will contribute to all phases of product development, from concept generation and rapid prototyping through flight testing and production release. This role offers exposure to a broad range of engineering disciplines including lightweight structures, composite materials, electric propulsion systems, manufacturing processes, and flight vehicle integration. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Design lightweight structural components, assemblies, and mechanisms for unmanned aircraft systems. Create and maintain 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and product documentation using SolidWorks and associated engineering tools. Support the development and fabrication of prototype hardware, test fixtures, and engineering mockups. Perform engineering analyses, including hand calculations and FEA, to evaluate structural integrity, durability, and performance. Develop and execute laboratory, environmental, and field tests to validate mechanical designs. Participate in flight test activities, including vehicle preparation, system integration, troubleshooting, and data collection. Collaborate with electrical, software, systems, manufacturing, and test engineers to integrate and validate new designs. Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to improve product quality, reliability, and producibility. Support the engineering change process by creating, reviewing, and maintaining technical documentation and release packages. Work with suppliers, manufacturing personnel, and technicians to support prototype and production builds. Investigate mechanical failures and assist with root-cause analysis and corrective actions. Communicate technical progress, issues, and recommendations to project teams and engineering leadership. Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. U.S. Citizenship required. Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals including mechanics, materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical design. Experience with 3D CAD modeling through academic projects, internships, research, competition teams, or professional experience. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Willingness to support hands-on prototype development and testing activities. Preferred Qualifications Internship, co-op, research, capstone, Formula SAE, robotics, aerospace, or UAS experience. Experience using SolidWorks for part and assembly design. Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools. Experience with additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping techniques. Experience designing lightweight structures and mechanical assemblies. Familiarity with composite materials, sheet metal, machined components, and mechanical fastening methods. Understanding of batteries, electric motors, propulsion systems, or aerospace subsystems. Experience supporting laboratory, environmental, or flight testing activities. Familiarity with Product Data Management (PDM) systems and configuration control practices. Familiarity with GD&T and engineering drawing standards. Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance. What You'll Gain Direct involvement in the development of advanced UAS platforms. Exposure to the complete product lifecycle, from concept development through production. Opportunities to work on flight hardware and participate in flight testing. Mentorship from experienced aerospace and mechanical engineers. A fast-paced engineering environment focused on innovation, mission impact, and continuous learning.
