Oransi is a Virginia based advanced manufacturer headquartered in a 156,000 square foot facility in Radford, VA. We design and build high performance air purifiers sold under the Oransi brand, along with electric motors, blowers, and fans for data center and IT equipment cooling and unmanned systems. Through our subsidiaries, Aslan Motion Technologies supplies NDAA compliant motors and propulsion components to defense and unmanned systems customers, and Aviemore Technologies builds seal-less magnetic coupling pumps for data center liquid cooling. Founded in 2009 and self funded from the start, we are a team of learners, hard workers, and go getters who build real products for real customers. Our leadership team has spent more than 25 years building manufacturing companies together, and we are looking for people who want to grow with us. We are looking for a hands on BLDC Motor Engineer to own motor design from concept through production, in a small team where your work goes straight from the bench to the build floor. What You'll Do Design and optimize slotless and slotted BLDC motors for unmanned systems, pump, and blower applications, balancing torque density, efficiency, thermal performance, and cost Perform electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical analysis using FEA tools (Ansys Maxwell, Motor-CAD, JMAG, or similar) Develop windings, stator and rotor geometry, and magnet specifications, including NdFeB grade selection and demagnetization analysis Adapt existing catalog motor designs into customer specific variants for defense and commercial programs Build and run motor test plans: back EMF, torque constant, efficiency mapping, thermal rise, and endurance testing Work with firmware and electronics engineers on motor and controller integration, including sensorless and FOC drive tuning Support magnet and material sourcing with an eye toward NDAA and domestic supply chain compliance Create production drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing instructions, and support the transition from prototype to volume production in our Radford facility Participate in customer technical discussions and help write specifications, datasheets, and test reports What You Bring BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (MS a plus) 3+ years of hands on experience designing BLDC or PMSM motors Working knowledge of electromagnetic FEA and motor sizing methods Experience with dynamometer testing and motor characterization Comfort working in a lab and on the manufacturing floor, not just in CAD Solid understanding of permanent magnet materials, winding techniques, and motor thermal management Ability to work independently and manage several programs at once Must be a U.S. person as defined by ITAR, due to access to export controlled technical data Nice to Have Experience with slotless or coreless motor topologies Background in UAS propulsion, magnetic couplings, or canned/sealed pump motors Familiarity with motor control electronics and FOC algorithms Experience with defense programs, NDAA compliance, or MIL-STD qualification testing SolidWorks or similar CAD proficiency Why Join Us Direct impact: your designs ship in real products for defense, data center, and commercial customers Work closely with a founding team with decades of motor industry experience Wide scope across electromagnetic design, testing, and manufacturing Competitive salary [insert range], health benefits [insert details], and paid time off Affordable living in Southwest Virginia, close to Virginia Tech and the Blue Ridge Oransi LLC is an equal opportunity employer.
