  • Demonstrated proficiency operating professional audio interfaces (RME, Antelope, or similar) and precision measurement equipment.
  • Experience with room acoustics measurements, HRTF measurement, or spatial audio capture systems.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB for measurement automation, data analysis, and signal processing.
  • Solid understanding of fundamental DSP concepts (filtering, FFT, convolution, sampling theory).
  • Experience with development or validation of audio processing pipelines, particularly in capture and/or noise reduction domains.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Preferred Skills:
  • Familiarity with audio measurement software (e.g., Audio Precision, EASERA, REW, custom sweep-based systems).
  • Experience working with embedded audio systems or wearable devices.
  • Familiarity with lab automation, version-controlled measurement scripts, and data pipeline tools.
  • Experience in an interdisciplinary research environment collaborating with scientists, engineers, and product teams.

Overview:
Reality Labs Research (RL-R) brings together a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers to create the future of augmented and virtual reality. The Hearing Product Group is focused on researching and developing next-generation audio technologies for AR glasses and wearable devices — from acoustic capture and spatial audio to noise reduction and hearing enhancement.

We are seeking an experienced Acoustic Research Engineer (CW) to join our team and contribute to the design, execution, and analysis of complex acoustic measurements that drive our audio research and product development. In this role, you will set up and operate professional acoustic measurement systems as an integral part of the development and validation of audio processing pipelines — particularly in the areas of capture and noise reduction.

Our team cultivates an honest and considerate environment where self-motivated individuals thrive. We encourage a strong sense of ownership and embrace the ambiguity that comes with working on the frontiers of research.

Responsibilities
  • Design, assemble, and operate complex acoustic measurement setups including impulse/transfer function measurements, and electroacoustic characterization of devices and transducers.
  • Configure and operate professional audio interfaces (e.g., RME, Antelope) and measurement equipment including HATS (Head and Torso Simulator), precision microphones, reference loudspeakers, and turntable systems.
  • Develop, validate, and maintain audio processing pipelines with a focus on capture and noise reduction signal chains.
  • Collaborate with research scientists and engineers to support data collection campaigns, prototype evaluation, and algorithm validation.
  • Document measurement procedures, maintain lab equipment, and ensure reproducibility and quality of acoustic data.
Pursuant to the California Fair Chance Act, Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance for Employers, Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance, and San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, qualified applicants will be considered for assignment with arrest and conviction records. These include the duties and responsibilities listed above, as well as the abilities to adhere to company policies, exercise sound judgment, effectively manage stress and work safely and respectfully with others, exhibit trustworthiness, meet client expectations, standards, and accompanying requirements, and safeguard business operations and company reputation.
  • Only those lawfully authorized to work in the designated country associated with the position will be considered.
  • Please note that all Position start dates and duration are estimates and may be reduced or lengthened based upon a client's business needs and requirements.
