GRAEF is excited to offer an internship opportunity for an engineering student to join our high performing mechanical team in our downtown Milwaukee office for the summer of 2027. This role is ideal for a student pursuing a career in mechanical and plumbing system design who is interested in gaining meaningful hands-on experience within a collaborative consulting engineering environment. This position offers exposure to the full project lifecycle from system concept development through design and into construction support while contributing to active project work. Under the mentorship of experienced members of the Mechanical team, the selected candidate will develop a strong foundation in HVAC and plumbing system fundamentals, building system calculations, modeling, and multidisciplinary coordination. As a Mechanical Engineer Intern at GRAEF, enjoy essential job duties like: Assist with HVAC and plumbing system design for a variety of building types.
Perform system calculations including heating and cooling loads, ventilation requirements, and plumbing sizing.
Develop project drawings and fully modeled designs utilizing Autodesk Revit.
Perform field investigations and visit local project sites to observe construction and system installations.
Participate in internal design meetings and multidisciplinary coordination sessions.
Assist with construction administration tasks such as submittal review and provide response to contractor submitted requests for information (RFI).
Broadening technical skills by working on a wide array of projects and building types.
Other duties as may be assigned. We are considering students to join our team who possess the following basic qualifications: Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a mechanical focus.
Coursework focusing on HVAC and plumbing system design for buildings preferred.
Strong interest in building systems and consulting engineering.
Experience with Autodesk Revit strongly preferred.
Completion of coursework in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer preferred.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
