Job Description

A well-established mechanical contractor is seeking an experienced Start-Up & Commissioning Manager to own the critical closeout phase of complex mechanical construction projects. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role for a technically sharp leader who thrives under pressure, solves problems in the field, and drives projects across the finish line — on schedule, on budget, and performing exactly as designed. You'll serve as the technical authority coordinating PMs, superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, and owner commissioning agents through the most demanding phase of every project. What you'll own Plan, schedule, and supervise start-up of all mechanical and plumbing equipment across assigned projects Manage and schedule start-up foremen and superintendents; maintain manpower projections through closeout Lead troubleshooting and forensic investigations of construction-related issues — resolve field problems with authority and urgency Oversee and document installation verification, pre-functional testing, and commissioning activities Interface directly with mechanical equipment vendors for vendor-designated start-ups and technical coordination Coordinate with temperature controls and test & balance subcontractors throughout the commissioning phase Coordinate and manage smoke control testing activities in collaboration with the project team Collaborate closely with owner's commissioning agents; support PMs with equipment tracking and start-up matrix What we're looking for Mechanical construction background is required — this is a field-technical leadership role, not a controls or facilities management position. 7+ years of relevant experience in mechanical construction start-up, commissioning, or project closeout Deep technical knowledge of mechanical and plumbing systems — HVAC, piping, hydronic systems, or process mechanical Proven ability to read and comprehend project contract documents, specifications, and equipment submittals Experience supervising and scheduling field crews, foremen, and subcontractors during closeout phases Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field — or equivalent experience Independent decision-maker who can manage complexity, maintain momentum, and operate with minimal oversight #
PPSHP Pay:
$115,000.00 - $145,000.00 per year
