Job Description
Job Title:
CAD Drafter Job Description This short-term CAD Drafter role supports Engineering and Facilities teams by executing a defined backlog of drafting and documentation work focused on 2D AutoCAD drawings for facility and production layouts. The position is based onsite in Irvine, CA, Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and is expected to last approximately two to three months. The role emphasizes precise execution and documentation rather than design ownership, ensuring that facility and production layout drawings accurately reflect current conditions and support ongoing manufacturing expansion projects. Responsibilities Update and revise facility and production room layouts based on redlines, markups, and recent changes. Modify room layouts to reflect new or relocated equipment, removed or reconfigured walls, and updated separations. Support production layout drawings, including material flow and personnel process flow through the facility. Update distribution layouts at a support level, including piping and compressed air drawings. Assist with P&ID and P&AD-style process drawings as needed, without requiring deep system design expertise. Export finalized drawings into internal systems for review and approval, and support updates to a large master drawing composed of approximately 40 individual drawings. Work closely with the Facility Engineer and Engineering leadership to understand project scope, priorities, and technical direction. Participate in initial onboarding and scope walkthroughs to gain clarity on expectations and standards. Receive drawings and task priorities based on evolving project needs and adjust work accordingly. Execute drafting updates efficiently to reduce the existing backlog of documentation work. Deliver clean, accurate, and well-documented drawings that are ready for review and approval. Ensure that facility and production layout documentation reflects current-state conditions with minimal need for rework from Engineering. Essential Skills Hands-on experience with AutoCAD 2D for drafting and updating technical drawings. Proven ability to follow redlines, markups, and verbal direction accurately. Experience updating and maintaining facility or manufacturing layout drawings. Excellent attention to detail and strong commitment to documentation accuracy. Strong verbal communication skills to clarify scope, resolve questions, and confirm technical direction. Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively in a short-term, deadline-driven environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Exposure to manufacturing, facilities, or regulated environments, such as pharmaceutical or similar industries. Familiarity with production flow layouts and how materials and personnel move through a facility. Light exposure to piping or utility drawings, with compressed air systems experience preferred. Background as a drafting technician or engineering technician. Experience with production equipment layouts in a manufacturing setting. Exposure to or familiarity with P&ID-style drawings. Experience with SolidWorks is a plus, particularly in environments that integrate multiple CAD tools. Work Environment The role is based onsite at a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Irvine, CA, operating Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. The environment is project-based and deadline-driven, with a finite scope of work expected to be completed within approximately two to three months. You will work closely with Engineering and Facilities teams in a setting that is expanding and updating its manufacturing capabilities, including the addition of clean rooms and related infrastructure. Work is primarily performed in an office or engineering area using AutoCAD 2D and internal documentation systems, with potential interaction with production and facility areas to understand layouts and equipment placement. The culture emphasizes accuracy, clear communication, and timely execution to keep engineering and facility projects on schedule in a regulated manufacturing environment.
