HX5 is currently seeking a Mechanical Designer to join our team in Brook Park, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The selected Design Team Member will work with Mechanical Engineers to develop and design hardware for various NASA applications. The candidate will be responsible to develop solid models and engineering drawings in accordance with NASA and industry standards. Primary work activities will include design development (CAD modeling), creating and maintaining drawings (drafting), and working with the project teams to meet objectives. Drafting activities will include detailed fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and interface/installation drawings for mechanical systems. The candidate will work on multiple projects at the same time and will be responsible for coordinating efforts to meet various project schedules. The candidate shall have strong communication skills and be proactive in identifying issues and finding solutions.
Required Skills:
Background in Mechanical Design with strong knowledge of machining and fabrication practices Strong knowledge of basic design principles, drafting, and design standards like
ASME Y14.5M GD&T
Strong experience with Creo software, including large assemblies and complex drawings Experience using Windchill PLM software (or similar) for configuration management of models, drawings, and associated data, including drawing release and revision Ability to read and develop mechanical design solid models, detail, and assembly drawings
Desired Skills :
Experience with Aerospace and Spaceflight hardware systems Ability to interface with engineering to obtain and implement design requirement Experience with SolidWorks design modeling software, including assemblies and detailed drawings Experience with other 2-D and 3-D software is desired (AutoCAD, NX, etc.) Experience with reverse engineering and 3-d laser scanning & associated data
Education/Experience:
Must have one of the following combinations of education and experience: Associate's degree and five (5) years of experience High School diploma or equivalent and ten (10) years of experience.
