Responsibilities Develop 2D and 3D piping designs under the direction of mechanical engineers for projects in heavy industrial facilities such as pulp & paper, chemical processing, mining, materials handling, utilities, and manufacturing. Produce piping models, plans, sections, orthographic drawings, and isos using Autodesk Plant 3D and Navisworks. Interpret engineering sketches, P&IDs, equipment data sheets, and design criteria to create accurate piping layouts. Support the development of piping routings, equipment tie‑ins, utility connections, and material handling interfaces. Perform clash detection and coordinate with structural, electrical, and controls designers to resolve interferences. Assist with sizing and selecting pipe, fittings, supports, and specialty components based on engineering guidance and applicable codes. Update and maintain line lists, equipment lists, and drawing registers. Incorporate field measurements, laser scans, and site walkdown data into design models. Prepare drawing packages for review, approval, and construction, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company standards. Support bid package development by preparing takeoffs, drawing sets, and design details. Communicate regularly with mechanical engineers to ensure design intent, constructability, and safety requirements are met. Required Attributes High, uncompromised integrity. Ability to troubleshoot layout issues and propose practical design solutions. Comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced industrial environment. Self‑starter who can work independently while knowing when to seek guidance. Required Skills and Credentials 5-10 years of piping design experience in heavy industrial facilities. Proficiency in Autodesk Plant 3D, Navisworks Manage, and Bluebeam. Experience interpreting P&IDs, equipment drawings, and engineering specifications. Familiarity with industrial piping codes and standards (ASME B31.1, B31.3, etc.). Experience designing around large industrial equipment such as tanks, pressure vessels, pumps, conveyors, boilers, dryers, and material handling systems. Ability to incorporate field data, including laser scans and site measurements, into design models. Strong understanding of piping materials, supports, and installation practices.
