Role Description We are seeking a motivated, hands-on Mechatronics Research Engineer to serve as a technical contributor on our 12-month

Phase I project. This role involves designing, building, and installing electromechanical hardware, fluidics, and control systems, as well as conducting field validation experiments. The Mechatronics Research Engineer will document designs, test procedures, and results, and support the transition from lab prototype to pilot deployment. Within our startup environment, one will have the opportunity to grow alongside the company, with the potential to take on greater technical and leadership responsibility as we advance toward Phase II and beyond. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience. Experience in Research and Development (R D), including experimental design, prototyping, and data-driven iteration. 2-5 years of hands-on electromechanical prototyping experience Experience with linear actuators or voice coil / Lorentz-force motors Demonstrated closed-loop feedback control design (PID, PD, or equivalent) Proficiency in LabVIEW or MATLAB/Simulink with real-time hardware Experience with NI DAQ hardware (cRIO, myRIO, USB-DAQ, or equivalent) Hands-on electronics skills, including circuit wiring, amplifier interfacing, sensor integration Proficiency with CAD (Solid Edge, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent), simulation tools, and electronics design is highly beneficial FEA of mechanical components Ability to work independently and manage concurrent tasks Ability to work on-site in a lab and field environment, including occasional work outdoors for field testing. Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a small, multidisciplinary team. Strong foundation in Computer Science and Algorithms for implementing control logic, data processing, and system optimization. Solid understanding of Physics as applied to mechanical systems, fluid dynamics, and sensor/actuator behavior. Hands-on experience with prototyping tools, lab equipment, and testing mechatronic or robotic systems. Preferred Qualifications Master's or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics Experience with high-pressure fluid delivery or ballistic actuator systems Familiarity with experimental design and statistical analysis (ANOVA, regression) Experience with FEA software (ANSYS, Abaqus, or SolidWorks Simulation) Prior work in a startup, fast-paced industry environment, or research lab environment Knowledge of wood anatomy, plant physiology, or agricultural systems Experience with embedded microcontroller programming (C/C++, Arduino, or similar)
