Mechatronics Engineer
Job Description
The Mechatronics Engineer position is a technical leadership role within Operations that serves as a liaison between manufacturing engineering, product engineering, quality, and production teams. The role focuses on developing, implementing, and improving automated manufacturing systems, controls, robotics, and industrial equipment to enhance efficiency, quality, reliability, and safety. The engineer leads projects, supports new product launches, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and provides technical expertise for troubleshooting and process optimization. The position is reported to the Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering Manager. Qualification 1: Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Controls Engineering, or a related technical field. Qualification 2: 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, automation, controls, or maintenance engineering within an industrial environment. Qualification 3: Demonstrates expertise in PLC programming, troubleshooting, modification, and commissioning, with the ability to diagnose complex control-related issues and restore equipment to reliable operation. Experience should also include HMI configuration, machine interface development, industrial sensors, servo systems, variable frequency drives, and industrial communication networks. Qualification 4: Strong hands-on experience with industrial robotics and automated manufacturing systems, including robot programming, troubleshooting, integration, optimization, and production support. Experience integrating robotics with other manufacturing equipment, controls, sensors, welding systems, or vision applications is preferred. Qualification 5: Strong electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills, including the ability to diagnose equipment issues and read electrical schematics and technical drawings. Qualification 6: Experience with manufacturing data and production monitoring systems, including MES, SCADA, historian platforms, industrial data collection systems, and OEE analytics. Must be able to use manufacturing data to identify performance losses, equipment trends, downtime causes, quality concerns, and opportunities for process improvement. Qualification 7: Working knowledge of machine safety, functional safety systems, risk assessments, safety relays/PLCs, machine guarding, and LOTO requirements. Qualification 8: Strong project management, vendor coordination, and cross-functional leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple technical priorities. Qualification 9: Strong root cause analysis and structured problem-solving capabilities using tools such as 5-Why analysis, Fishbone/Ishikawa diagrams, FMEA, fault isolation, and other analytical problem-solving methods. Must be capable of moving beyond short-term equipment fixes and implementing sustainable corrective actions that prevent recurrence.
