Job Summary The NICHE Robotics Lab at the University of Michigan-Dearborn is seeking a CECS graduate student to support research on plant-inspired soft robotic systems. Students are paid bi-weekly at an hourly rate determined by the faculty project sponsor. The anticipated start date will begin in the fall semester. Responsibilities• The project involves studying plant growth and locomotion mechanisms and translating these biological principles into novel robotic designs. The student will be responsible for mechanical design, CAD modeling, prototyping, and experimental evaluation of soft robotic systems. The student will work closely with interdisciplinary collaborators spanning engineering, biology, and design. Required Qualifications• Current UM-Dearborn M.S. student in Mechanical Engineering or related field Strong CAD experience (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent) Experience with mechanical design and fabrication Interest in bio-inspired robotics and soft robotic systems Desired Qualifications• Experience with rapid prototyping and 3D printing Prior research experience in robotics or product development Modes of Work Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
