Job Description The Mechatronics Engineer provides remote and occasional on-site support for complex mechatronic systems that combine mechanical, electrical, and software components. The engineer assists customers and field teams in diagnosing and resolving issues with robotic automation, sensors, actuators, and embedded controllers. Responsibilities include troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and firmware problems, training users, updating documentation, and collaborating with engineering teams to enhance system performance.
This is a highly technical engineering support role, ideal for someone with a strong engineering and analytical skillset. This role is based at our client's headquarters in Austin, TX and reports to the Director of Engineering ServicesResponsibilities
- Provide remote support for automated systems such as robotic sortation or material-handling equipment, responding to queries via chat, email, or phone. Register, track, and handle disruptions, errors, and inquiries using customer service management software.
- Diagnose and resolve software, electrical, mechanical, and firmware issues in mechatronic systems. Resolve problems with wireless devices, networks, and other IT equipment associated with automation.
- Train staff and customers on troubleshooting techniques; write, edit, and revise training manuals and how-to guides for new and updated software and hardware.
- Run reports to analyze common complaints and problems; use data to identify patterns and suggest design or process improvements. Apply mechatronic or automated solutions to improve material transfer and system performance.
- Install or configure software updates and patches to fix issues and enhance functionality. Collaborate with developers on functional requirements, testing issue resolution, and lab testing.
- Communicate and work closely with software, controls, mechanical, and installation teams to resolve client issues. Provide on-site support during system turnover and go-live events as necessary.
- Provide feedback to engineering on system failures; contribute ideas for improving system designs and implementing mechatronic enhancements.
- Ensure that all mechatronic systems comply with safety and quality standards; conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies. Skills and Requirements
