Our core values are the foundation that make us successful for ourselves, our customers and the planet. Albemarle is hiring for a Senior Mining Engineer, reporting to the Lead Mining Engineer. The position is located on-site at Kings Mountain Lithium Project in North Carolina. This will include mining engineering functional support through the various study phases, operational readiness, and the execution phase of the project. The role will transition from the study team to the mining operation at project execution or to further studies as required. What You Will Do Contribute to strategic and tactical mine planning activities including pit optimization, mine design, drill and blast design, production scheduling, and trade‑off analyses Provide mine engineering support to geotechnical, hydrology, environmental, process, geometallurgical, and waste‑management workstreams Evaluate mining methods, equipment strategies, and operational configurations to identify optimal project solutions Participate in risk assessments, mine‑plan reviews, and scenario evaluations that guide technical decision‑making Maintain continuity of technical work as the project advances from study phases toward execution Prepare and review budgets, capital (CAPEX) and operating (OPEX) cost estimates related to mining Collaborate with other core departments in the development of their operating budgets and capital projects Provide inputs to economic models, including schedules, productivity assumptions, equipment requirements, and labor estimates. Contribute to early operational readiness frameworks, including developing standards and procedures Conduct mining equipment selection tradeoff studies and work closely with OEMs to deliver fit for purpose equipment on time and ready for work in the Kings Mountain mining project Assist with mine‑site layout planning and integration with downstream processing and surface facilities, including infrastructure planning Work with environmental, permitting, processing, construction, and planning teams to ensure aligned project development Provide mine engineering inputs for regulatory submissions and environmental documentation Develop and maintain mine engineering standards, procedures, and best practices supporting safe and productive mining Support the preparation of industry compliant reports with mining performance data. Monitor the mining performance of the operation against the approved mine plan and corresponding KPIs, and develop continuous improvement initiatives through data diagnostics to promote best in class performance Competencies Demonstrated capability with open pit mine design and scheduling software across short-, medium, and long-term horizons with a strategic focus Open pit drill and blast design and operations experience Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply inputs for mine engineering Strong attention to detail, and ability to think critically and strategically Ability to collaborate and influence across different functions, including mining and process operations, technical services, environmental and corporate Ability to build relationships both internal and external to the organization, including with technical experts and vendors Ability to develop and review mine operating and capital cost estimates Strong problem solving, analysis and decision-making skills Strong verbal and written communication skills
What You Bring Required:
Minimum B.S. or Engineering degree in Mining 7+ years of mine engineering and operations experience Strong knowledge of surface mining methods for hard‑rock deposits Proficient mine design and scheduling software Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. mining regulatory (MSHA) and permitting processes It'd be great if you also have: Experience evaluating and implementing new mining technologies Demonstrated team leadership experience Experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS/ArcView Multi-commodity mining experience Underground mining experience Experience in mine commissioning and start-up Success Indicators Delivery of complete, defensible mine engineering inputs that support ongoing study and design development Clear, data‑driven recommendations for mine optimization, design, scheduling, and fleet strategy Effective cross‑team collaboration and communication of risks, assumptions, and opportunities Contribution to engineering standards, project governance, and overall project performance Benefits of joining Albemarle Competitive compensation Comprehensive benefits package A diverse array of resources to support you professionally and personally.
