www.anglogoldashanti.com The Senior Geotechnical Engineer leads all geotechnical engineering activities to ensure the safe, efficient, and cost‑effective design and operation of open‑pit slopes, waste dumps, leach pads, and related mine infrastructure. This role provides technical leadership, risk analysis, and operational support to mine planning, geology, and operations teams, ensuring geotechnical excellence throughout the mine lifecycle. Key Responsibilities Safety & Risk Management Implement and maintain systems that ensure a safe, healthy working environment for employees and contractors. Identify geotechnical safety risks early and resolve emerging technical issues proactively. Ensure all design work meets AGA standards and complies with internal and external requirements. Technical Leadership & Geotechnical Design Define and implement geotechnical specifications for mine design and operational plans within budget. Lead and manage geotechnical test work programs, including planning, scheduling, sampling, and quality control. Coordinate with geology teams on sample selection and preparation. Identify appropriate laboratories, design partners, and manage technical aspects of tenders. Analyze geotechnical test data to develop engineering design parameters and criteria. Conduct trade‑off studies for geotechnical design options and mine planning scenarios. Ensure all geotechnical considerations are integrated into mine design, scheduling, and long‑term planning. Prepare high‑quality technical reports documenting analysis, results, and recommendations. Data Management & Continuous Improvement Manage the collection, analysis, and interpretation of all geotechnical data. Identify opportunities to improve design processes, systems, and operational implementation to enhance safety, efficiency, and cost effectiveness. Continuously refine geotechnical methodology to support business plan objectives and optimize mine performance. Team Leadership & Collaboration Build, develop, and lead a high-performing geotechnical team. Promote a collaborative, accountable culture with a focus on integrity, teamwork, and professional development. Work cross‑functionally with mine planning, geology, hydrology, operations, and other departments to ensure streamlined project delivery. Communicate technical risks and recommendations clearly to project managers and leadership. Qualifications BSc in Engineering Geology or MSc in Geotechnical Engineering. Minimum seven (7) years of mining‑related geotechnical experience, including supervisory or management responsibilities. Demonstrated experience implementing geotechnical designs in open‑pit mining and related infrastructure. Practical understanding of exploration, mine development, and the mining value chain. Strong knowledge of hydrology, soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and engineering geology. Ability to make sound tactical decisions using limited or evolving data. Expertise with geotechnical software including Rocscience tools, Unwedge, and mine planning platforms (Vulcan or Deswik). Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret excavation behavior and identify trends, risks, and corrective actions. Demonstrated capacity for innovative, value‑adding technical problem solving. Understanding of mine planning processes and the integration of geotechnical inputs. Strong organizational and prioritization skills; able to exercise sound judgment. Effective communicator able to influence, collaborate, and work with high‑performing technical teams. Ability to explain complex geotechnical concepts and relationships clearly. Demonstrates integrity, accountability, and commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork. Capable of managing interrelated problems and making informed decisions under pressure Must be authorized to work in the United States. Valid driver's license required for travel to project sites.
