Job Description

Salary range:
$40-$50 per hour based on experience. Position Overview We are seeking a skilled Certified Weld Inspector to join our Quality team. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of ensuring that all manufactured products meet customer, company, and industry quality standards through hands‑on inspection, measurement, documentation, and continuous improvement.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Weld Quality Verification — Performs visual weld inspections (VT) per AWS D1.1, ASME, or project‑specific codes; identifies discontinuities, defects, and nonconformances. Code & Specification Compliance — Interprets welding codes, engineering drawings, WPS/PQR requirements, and government contract specifications. WPS/Welder Qualification Oversight — Verifies welder qualifications, monitors procedure adherence, and supports qualification testing when needed. Documentation & Traceability — Maintains inspection records, weld maps, NDE reports, and quality documentation required for government audits. NDE Coordination — Works with third‑party NDE providers (UT, MT, PT, RT) and reviews results for acceptance. Process Monitoring on the Shop Floor — Ensures proper joint preparation, fit‑up, preheat, interpass temperature, filler metal control, and post‑weld requirements. Corrective Action Support — Identifies root causes of weld defects and collaborates with production, engineering, and safety to resolve issues. Safety & Compliance Awareness — Supports safe welding practices, equipment setup, and adherence to OSHA and site‑specific requirements. Field Assembly Support — Provides inspection continuity during California assembly, ensuring weld quality matches fabrication standards. Government Contract Readiness — Ensures documentation, inspection records, and weld quality meet government customer expectations and audit requirements.
COMPETENCIES
Holds AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) credential (active status preferred) Experience with structural steel, heavy fabrication, or capital equipment Familiar with AWS D1.1, ASME, or similar codes Comfortable working with temporary welders and mixed‑experience crews Strong documentation discipline for government or defense‑related projects Able to support both shop fabrication (MA) and field assembly (CA) phases Experience in fast‑paced, schedule‑driven project environments

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to vibration. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee works in an open shop environment with no air conditioning and is seasonally exposed to heat. The employee will go between both local facilities to conduct inspection activities as needed. Compensation & Benefits Salary range: $40 - $50 per hour based on experience.
