Job Description

Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) / Quality Control Inspector (QCI) Position Summary The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) / Quality Control Inspector (QCI) is responsible for maintaining welding quality assurance processes and ensuring compliance with company procedures, industry standards, and applicable codes. This role conducts and oversees inspections of fabricated piping, structural steel, and aluminum while supporting continuous improvement initiatives, quality management systems, and certification requirements. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Perform visual and dimensional inspections of welds and fabrication activities in accordance with AWS, ASME, and customer requirements. Maintain welder qualification records, continuity logs, certifications, and inspection documentation. Develop, review, and manage Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs). Identify, document, and resolve quality issues through corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives. Coordinate Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities with third-party vendors. Ensure inspection, testing, and quality records are accurate, complete, and submitted in a timely manner. Support quality control activities including equipment verification, electrical testing, and final assembly inspections. Conduct process audits and support Quality Management System (QMS) compliance. Serve as a subject matter expert and provide training on welding quality, quality tools, Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI). Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and operations teams to maintain quality standards and customer satisfaction.
Education & Experience Required:
High school diploma or GED. Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification. Minimum three (3) years of experience as a CWI in a manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial environment.
Preferred:
Associate degree in Welding Technology or related field. Experience with ISO 9001 and/or AISC quality systems. Experience with structural steel, piping fabrication, and aluminum welding. Qualifications Strong knowledge of
AWS D1.1, AWS D1.2, AWS D1.3, ASME
Section IX, and
ASME B31.3.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, weld symbols, P&IDs, and isometric drawings. Knowledge of quality control processes, documentation practices, RCCA, and CQI methodologies. Familiarity with
ANSI/AISC 360-16
Chapter N requirements. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic documentation systems. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and perform inspections throughout a fabrication facility. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to work in industrial environments and wear required PPE. Work Environment Primarily works in a manufacturing and fabrication environment with exposure to welding operations, industrial equipment, and production activities. Occasional travel may be required for audits, inspections, or customer support.
