Full Job Description The Role:
We are seeking a detail-oriented NDT Technician to join our research team at the Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Laboratory in McLean, Virginia. In this role, you will leverage cutting-edge NDT technologies to support critical research projects that shape the future of highway infrastructure. We are looking for a professional who embodies safety and technical excellence, especially when representing the Lab in a workplace.
What You'll Do:
Advanced Data Collection:
Conduct inspections using a wide array of sophisticated methods, including: 1)Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) & Infrared Thermography; 2) Concrete Electrical Resistivity & Half-Cell Potential; 3) Ultrasonic systems (Pulse Echo, Surface Waves, Shear Wave Tomography, and Phased Array); 4) Impact Echo, Impulse Response, and Structural Instrumentation (Strain Gauges, Tiltmeters, Accelerometers).
Data Organization:
Systematically organize and manage data in strict accordance with established testing protocols and research standards.
Safety & Maintenance:
Maintain a rigorous safety standard for all NDT tasks. Oversee the day-to-day operation, calibration, and repair of the Lab's specialized equipment.
Collaborative Research:
Partner with research teams to troubleshoot equipment issues and ensure the successful execution of the Lab's mission.
Field Support:
Engage in occasional business travel for field data collection and site inspections.
Minimum Requirements:
Technical Skill:
Demonstrated ability to operate, troubleshoot, and repair complex electronic and mechanical equipment.
Communication:
Effective verbal and written communication skills for following technical instructions and reporting progress.
Licensure:
A valid driver's license.
Teamwork:
Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education:
Associate degree in Physics, Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electronic, Aerospace), or a related technical field.
Experience:
6+ years of hands-on experience as an NDT Technician.
Certifications:
Currently hold or have the ability to acquire ASNT Level II and OSHA Safety certifications.
Heavy Equipment:
Proficiency in operating forklifts and overhead cranes.
Standards Knowledge:
Strong understanding of ASTM and AASHTO standards relevant to NDE technologies.
