Location US-WA-Bremerton Seat Location EB Puget Sound (Bremerton), WA Trade Environmental, Health & Safety Shift 1st, 2nd, 3rd Security Clearance Required Secret Overview The Offsite Maintenance and Modernization (M&M) Office in Puget is hiring a Safety Representative. This position is for the Safety Representative that supports maintenance work on various construction efforts within the shipyard and shop environments. This position supports job site hazard analysis, industrial hygiene monitoring, injury investigations, safety inspections and coordination of safety training. This position requires working onboard submarines. The ideal candidate will cultivate and promote a positive TEAM environment, be highly motivated, demonstrate strong leadership and interpersonal skills, and drive innovation and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will establish and maintain strong working relationship with the AIT team to ensure performance in safety, quality, schedule, and cost. This individual will work collaboratively with on-site supervision to achieve department goals. This position requires a strong sense of ownership, responsibility, and accountability to achieve overall success. Travel will be required to offsite locations to support coordination and oversight of related activities. Key Responsibilities Support new construction and delivered ship work Conduct daily safety walk-throughs of the ship and shop Enforce safety and ensure proper PPE is being applied for select applications Conduct on-hull paint sampling and lab results prior to conducting work Established daily on-hull hotwork permits Established and maintains confined space entry postings Ensure work is in accordance with local and Federal regulations:
FPA, NFPA, OSHA, WAC, USN, EB
Enforce/comply with safety and environmental programs; monitor trends and ensure compliance; consult with responsible departments Provide shipyard interaction and government interfacing Shall interface with Engineering, ships' management and other off-site organizations Achieve and maintain safety, quality, cost, schedule, and performance goals Identify and address significant (including Level 1) problems in a timely manner Establish and execute annual audit plans; provide trend and performance analysis Collaborate with site leadership to ensure readiness for inspections and audits Drive innovation and continuous improvement efforts to support program goals Plan for risk identification and responsive mitigation strategies Monitor and improve workplace climate; reinforce desired workforce values behaviors; maintain morale
Qualifications Required:
High School Diploma or GED A minimum of 1 year of Industrial-related Safety experience is required DoD Secret security clearance or higher is required Computer skills in MS Word, MS Project, Excel, Power Point and PQS Must be able to qualify and maintain Respiratory Protection certification Must be able to qualify and maintain Fall Arrest Protection certification Must be able to qualify and maintain Lifting & Handling / Industrial Trucks certification Must be able to qualify and maintain the EB Heavy Metals Program requirements Must be able to qualify and maintain a Shipyard Competent Person certification Must be able to qualify and maintain a Department Environmental Coordinator certification Ability to work onboard submarines Travel to other shipyards in the continental United States is required Required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays Shift work and emergency overtime may be required
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in engineering/sciences Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) highly desirable 5 years of experience in military, shipbuilding, and ship repair, or manufacturing industry Fire Safety, EOD, and/or EMS/Paramedic experience OSHA General Industry or Maritime 10hr, 30hr, SCP training/certification
