40.0 Paid Holidays | PTO Overview System One is hiring a nuclear shielding and criticality engineer. The position is primarily shielding related. The primary software is MCNP 6.2, and strong MCNP skills are required. The class of problems includes shielding, energy deposition, neutron fluence, activation, and criticality. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential. Experience working in an NQA-1 environment with rigorous quality standards is desirable. Responsibilities Perform radiation shielding design and analysis for advanced nuclear reactors, including calculating dose rates, activation rates, neutron fluence rates, and energy deposition rates. Develop radiation sources based on material activation analysis for non-fuel in-vessel components. Perform criticality calculations and develop upper subcritical limits (USLs). Establish and maintain formal documentation of analysis results. Requirements BS degree in Nuclear Engineering with minimum 15 years of experience MS degree in Nuclear Engineering with minimum 8 years of experience PhD degree in Nuclear Engineering with minimum 5 years of experience Strong MCNP skills and experience with performing radiation shielding calculations for both gammas and neutrons Familiarity with variance reduction using MCNP, and features such as surface source read/write, mesh tallies, and weight windows Experience working in an NQA-1 environment with rigorous quality standards is desirable Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability and professionalism to work within published regulatory guidelines Experience with Attila /Attila4MC and computed aided drafting (e.g., SolidWorks, SpaceClaim) is a plus Strong programming skills in any language, especially Python, is a plus Knowledgeable or highly motivated to learn nuclear reactor design concepts quickly Acts independently and provides technical guidance; mentors less experienced engineers System One, and its subsidiaries including Joulé and Mountain Ltd., are leaders in delivering outsourced services and workforce solutions across North America.
