The engineer will design opto-mechanical components, fixtures, and system assemblies, and will work closely with research teams to move designs from concept to functional prototypes. This position requires strong mechanical design skills, practical understanding of optical alignment and precision tolerances, and the ability to troubleshoot design, assembly, and fabrication issues in a fast-paced small-company environment. Key Responsibilities
  • Design opto-mechanical components and precision mechanical assemblies for optical and imaging systems.
  • Create and maintain 3D models, assemblies, detailed engineering drawings, and bills of materials.
  • Develop prototype designs and support design iterations based on testing results, fabrication feedback, and system performance requirements.
  • Perform tolerance reviews and design-for-manufacturing/design-for-assembly evaluations for precision components and assemblies.
  • Support hands-on laboratory and fabrication work, including manufacturing mechanical components, assembling opto-mechanical systems, and performing alignment and adjustment of precision components. Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Precision Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in opto-mechanical design, precision mechanical design, optical system integration, or related engineering work.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks for 3D modeling, assemblies, engineering drawings, and fixture design.
  • Experience designing precision mechanical components, optical mounts, fixtures, and assemblies.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, mechanical tolerances, and fabrication requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with prototype assembly, alignment, testing, and troubleshooting. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with optical imaging systems and precision optical instruments.
  • Experience with optical alignment, optical testing, or optical metrology.
  • Experience with CNC machining, precision fabrication, or working directly with machine shops and vendors. Benefits
