The Display Technology team's main goals are to constantly push the envelope to design and ship innovative products with best-in-class technologies and user experiences! Description This engineer will be responsible for designing and developing objective solutions for calibrating, characterizing, and testing display modules and optical components for Apple products. You will work on metrology systems design, development, validation, and production deployment during New Product Introduction (NPI) stage, with support from SW/HW cross-functional teams. Responsibilities Develop industry-leading calibration and test methodology and solutions Design metrology system architecture and derive requirements for optical instruments and mechanical fixtures, through analytics and numerical models Define calibration & test Engineering Requirement Specification (ERS) Lead the system and key components' development based on the ERS, with the supports from cross-functional teams including mechanical, software, algorithm, electrical, and optical engineers Integrate the key SW/HW components and build prototypes to conduct critical validations and experiments to prove the system design Creatively and strategically optimize test coverage, sequence and methodology Lead vendors to develop and qualify the systems to meet production requirements Conduct HW/SW issues FA from module level down to the component level Deploy and bringup the developed systems in factories in NPI stage Analyze large amounts of NPI data and create build reports Create system design improvement plan based on findings from NPI builds Develop station bringup, qualification, audit methods and create documents for Operation teams and operators to follow Minimum Qualifications Bachelors degree in Optics, Physics, Computer Science, EE or Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience Experience working in metrology of display (OLED, LCD, LED) or other optical products Experience building metrology systems, including SW scripting and optical instruments setup Experience in one or more of following areas: Display design, characterization, calibration or test; Optical instruments, such as
CCD/CMOS
camera, spectrophotometers, colorimeters; Image processing and machine vision; Opto-mechanical system design Preferred Qualifications MS or PhD in Optics, Physics, Computer Science, EE or Mechanical Engineering or related field Direct experience on display or optical metrology systems development Familiar with industrial optical instruments, especially imaging instruments Strong problem solving skills; positive outlook and eagerness to step into uncharted technology spaces while being able to engineer solutions to meet project timelines Ability to own areas of responsibility, being able to self-motivate and work independently with critical thinkings Programming skills in Matlab, Python, C/C++ Strong data analytics and visualization skills with tools like JMP, Python, etc Excellent interpersonal and technical communication skills The position requires some international travel (up to 10%) Pay & Benefits At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $184,700 and $324,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
