Job Description Overview:
TEKsystems are seeking a hands-on Optical Transport Network Engineer to support a critical DoD program focused on expanding and securing mission-critical telecom infrastructure. This role is ideal for a mid-level network engineer with experience in optical transport systems, circuit activation, and IP networking who thrives in a structured, high-impact environment.
What You'll Be Doing:
  • Implement and activate new network circuits and optical transport services
  • Configure and test routers, switches, and transport equipment
  • Coordinate with customers, vendors, and engineers to deliver end-to-end connectivity
  • Execute service orders (TSOs/TSRs) in accordance with DISA processes
  • Perform network testing and validation to ensure performance and reliability
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues
  • Support change management processes for network updates
  • Monitor networks post-change to ensure no mission impact
Required Qualifications:
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Security+ (IAT Level II certification)
  • 4+ years of experience in Network engineering or network administration
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, ISIS)
  • WAN technologies and TCP/IP
  • VLANs, VPNs, and network services
  • Experience with:
  • Network configuration and implementation
  • Circuit activation / service provisioning
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with optical transport / DWDM / telecom networks
  • Prior experience in DISA or DoD environments
  • Familiarity with TSOs, TSRs, and telecom service orders
Desired Certifications:
  • CCNA, CCNP, or similar
  • ITIL or other relevant certifications
