InP DFB Laser Design, Buried Heterostructure (BH) Lasers, High-Power DFB Lasers (100mW-500mW)Position OverviewThe BH Laser Development Engineer will own the development and process qualification of a high-power InP DFB laser platform, delivering 100 mW devices for datacenter applications and defining a roadmap to 500 mW performance. This role provides technical leadership across laser design, BH regrowth processes, and external wafer foundry execution, guiding technologies from R D into high-yield mass production. The engineer will work cross-functionally with epitaxy, process, and reliability teams to optimize performance, yield, and lifetime while ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 and demanding customer requirements. This is a highly visible, hands-on role suited for a senior technologist seeking platform ownership and real influence over next-generation laser products.Key ResponsibilitiesOverall Technical Project Management developing a High-Power BH DFB Laser Platform at external wafer foundry.
Manage simulation and design of BH DFB laser epi and device designs including advanced grating designs to support high performance DFB lasers (e.g. narrower LW, higher powers, reduced back-reflection sensitivity, high test yield)Work with a cross functional team of MOCVD and Process Engineers to optimize BH etch and regrowth technology to deliver industry-leading parametric and reliability performanceAnalysis of Test Data to feedback into models to improve simulation accuracyDevelop models of how laser design and processes affect device reliability.
Publish internal technical literature and reports in relation to device performance.
Manage and execute assigned projects.
Ensure engineering documentation and procedures comply with ISO 9001 and most demanding customer requirements.
QualificationsQualified to at least degree level with at least 10 years experience in InP DFB laser design manufacturingExperience of developing & implementing new wafer fabrication and MOCVD growth processesExperience of all wafer fabrication processes including optical coatingsDeep understanding of SPC Process controlExperience of collating and analyzing parametric test data to feedback into process specificationsUnderstanding of reliability statistics and basic failure analysisBenefitsMedical/Dental/Vision benefitsVacation/PTOStock Option GrantsFlexible Work Arrangements
