Underground Utilities BBSI is hiring on behalf of a well-established civil construction company specializing in underground infrastructure projects across Southern California. We are seeking a Field Project Engineer with 5-10 years of experience in underground utility construction. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in both the field and office, with strong technical knowledge, project coordination skills, and a solid understanding of cost control and project financials. Key Responsibilities- Support Superintendents and Foremen with day-to-day field operations
- Manage and track RFIs, submittals, and change orders
- Interpret and work from construction drawings, plans, and specifications
- Assist with project scheduling, coordination, and execution
- Review and analyze subcontractor and vendor proposals/quotes
- Verify invoices and project costs to ensure accuracy and alignment with budget
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and support overall project profitability
- Act as a liaison between field teams, project management, and office staff
- Proactively identify issues and help drive timely resolutions on active job sites Qualifications
- 5-10 years of experience in underground utility construction
- Strong field experience (this is not a desk-only role)
- Proficient in managing RFIs, submittals, and change orders
- Solid understanding of project cost control and financial tracking
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents
- Experience working with subcontractors and vendors
- Ability to operate effectively in both field and office environments
- Civil or Mechanical Engineering background preferred Benefits
