Underground Utilities BBSI is hiring on behalf of a well-established civil construction company specializing in underground infrastructure projects across Southern California. We are seeking a Field Project Engineer with 5-10 years of experience in underground utility construction. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in both the field and office, with strong technical knowledge, project coordination skills, and a solid understanding of cost control and project financials. Key Responsibilities
  • Support Superintendents and Foremen with day-to-day field operations
  • Manage and track RFIs, submittals, and change orders
  • Interpret and work from construction drawings, plans, and specifications
  • Assist with project scheduling, coordination, and execution
  • Review and analyze subcontractor and vendor proposals/quotes
  • Verify invoices and project costs to ensure accuracy and alignment with budget
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and support overall project profitability
  • Act as a liaison between field teams, project management, and office staff
  • Proactively identify issues and help drive timely resolutions on active job sites Qualifications
  • 5-10 years of experience in underground utility construction
  • Strong field experience (this is not a desk-only role)
  • Proficient in managing RFIs, submittals, and change orders
  • Solid understanding of project cost control and financial tracking
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents
  • Experience working with subcontractors and vendors
  • Ability to operate effectively in both field and office environments
  • Civil or Mechanical Engineering background preferred Benefits
