Substation Electrical Engineer

The Opportunity Ulteig is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Substation Engineer to support Renewables/Utility/Power projects. The Substation Engineer develops and reviews utility substation drawings, including General Arrangements, Elevations, Cable and Conduit Plans, Grounding Plans, AC/DC Schematics, panel elevations, electrical equipment enclosure plans, wiring diagrams, specifications, and reports to ensure that they are complete, accurate, and in accordance with sound engineering practices and client standards. •Please note that resumes must be submitted in English for the application to be considered•What You'll Do The Substation Engineer acts as a technical leader and applies standard engineering techniques and procedures on moderately complex projects. Plans, schedules, conducts and/or coordinates detailed phases of assigned project work. Makes design recommendations, adaptations and modifications for utility substations. Performs calculations using engineering formulas and skills. Involved in the resolution of design problems, which may include performing field investigation or observation, detailed design work and detailed quality control (QC) review of design calculations. Coordinates specific design aspects of a project requiring the ability to plan, schedule, conduct, and communicate work with team members. Provide technical guidance to other engineers. What We Expect from You Bachelor's degree in electrical, Electronic, Mechatronics, Electromechanical, Maintenance Engineering required. 4 years of engineering experience required Prior experience in electrical design work required. Knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC) required. Capable of reviewing and producing design drawings, including General Arrangements, Elevations, Cable and Conduit Plans, Grounding Plans, Physical Connection Details, AC/DC schematics, and wiring diagrams Ability to perform AC & DC substation studies Develop protection and control design deliverables including protective relays, panel arrangements, one line/single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, relay panel wiring and equipment wiring for substation design. Develop physical design deliverables including yard layout plans, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, and auxiliary AC/DC power systems for substation design. Perform or oversee quality review of electrical substation design packages. Prepare electrical equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM) for procurement and construction. Communicate and coordinate project activities with internal and external clients, vendors, and other stakeholders. Present proposals, designs and project activities. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members. Prior experience working with physical design or protection and control design of electrical power substations is a plus Experience using ground grid modeling software a plus Knowledge of substation protection and control schemes a plus Knowledge of basic relay settings a plus Knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) a plus Knowledge of Utilities Service design guide a plus Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point) Demonstrates openness to innovation by embracing and applying evolving technology and AI tools to enhance workflows, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement USA PE License is considered a plus Must have permanent authorization to work in Costa Rica As you consider applying for a position at Ulteig, we encourage you to think outside the box - because we do!
