An Electrical Substation Engineer is responsible for substation design including schematic development, physical layouts, equipment, and construction cost estimates.
Develops preliminary scope of work, Schedules/Conducts pre-engineering job walk meetings with stakeholders (Construction, Maintenance, Operations, IT, Telecomm, Field Engineering, Test, etc.) Create/Approve/Publish pre-engineering job walk meeting minutes & design specification documents Orders major equipment in a timely manner to meet material want dates Manage various in-house design projects by providing technical engineering and design support to the design team as well as providing training and directions Manages Prime engineering contractor and working with contractor to ensure consistency and high quality of design, delivery milestone dates, and cost Reviews/Evaluates/Approves engineering contractor design cost proposals on direct award and/or competitive bidding projects Participate in the mentoring and training of new engineers as required to help develop the technical expertise of the Substation Projects group Reviews/Approve Purchase Order Requests, change orders and service sheets through the Ariba system Provides technical support to field personnel and other internal/external stakeholders and project related team members as required Provides engineering support for on-ongoing operational needs to support service reliability and meet other related compliance requirements, such as emergent projects and/or stakeholders request and emergencies as well as North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) compliance and reporting Create and maintain a safety conscious work environment by leading and influencing others to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Design Manager, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Required Skills/Attributes:
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or Bachelor Degree in a Scientific/Technical/Math field Two (2) or more years of experience in substation engineering and design General knowledge and experience with guides, standards, codes, and methods to perform complex assignments. Highly organized, experience conducting field meeting discussing scope of work and excellent note taking. AutoCAD design experience in developing and updating AutoCAD drawings. Highly organized, excellent communication skills verbal/written, experience conducting field meeting discussing scope of work and excellent note taking skills. Desired Skills/Attributes Five (5) years or more years of engineering experience General knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform complex assignments for a specific discipline, various installations, or services Professional Engineer License (P.E.) in State of California Power Utility Substation 4KV thru 500KV
