San Leandro, CA Work Schedule:
Onsite, 5 days per week

Full-time About the Opportunity A leading and rapidly growing food manufacturing organization is entering an exciting phase of expansion and transformation, investing heavily in new manufacturing technologies, automation, and modernizing legacy systems. We are looking for a Senior Electrical & Automation Systems Engineer to serve as a technical leader across electrical, automation, and IT/OT systems. In this highly specialized role, you'll bring deep hands-on expertise in industrial automation, electrical systems, and IT/OT integration to support the startup of a new sauce manufacturing area while helping modernize automation across the broader facility. You'll work closely with Operations, Maintenance, IT, Engineering, contractors, and system integrators to develop reliable, safe, and supportable solutions within a live manufacturing environment. Reporting to the Principal Automation & Controls Engineer , you'll own automation and electrical system design, commissioning, troubleshooting, and lifecycle support. You'll also mentor junior engineers, guide contractors and integrators, and help establish engineering standards and best practices. Key Responsibilities Lead electrical and automation engineering activities supporting the startup and stabilization of a new sauce manufacturing area. Design, implement, commission, troubleshoot, and maintain industrial automation and electrical systems. Support PLC, SCADA, industrial network, historian, and control system architecture. Provide hands-on technical support for live manufacturing systems and resolve complex equipment and automation issues. Lead electrical and automation scopes within capital projects, including design review, installation, commissioning, startup, and handover to Operations and Maintenance. Manage and coordinate system integrators, panel builders, electrical contractors, and other external partners. Review technical designs, drawings, programming, documentation, and installation work to ensure compliance with engineering standards. Support IT/OT integration across PLCs, SCADA, historians, databases, managed networks, virtual environments, and enterprise systems. Help maintain secure and reliable connectivity between plant-floor systems and business systems. Develop and improve automation standards, programming practices, documentation, and asset-management strategies. Support root-cause analysis, reliability improvements, system optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives. Use historian and manufacturing data to identify opportunities to improve performance, quality, reliability, and efficiency. Mentor junior automation and electrical engineers and serve as a technical resource to the broader Engineering team. Partner closely with Operations, Maintenance, IT, Engineering, and Safety to ensure systems are safe, reliable, and supportable. What You'll Bring Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and industry experience. 10+ years of experience in electrical and industrial automation engineering. 5+ years of experience working in a manufacturing plant environment supporting live production systems. 5+ years of experience working with or for system integrators delivering automation solutions. Proven experience leading electrical and automation scopes for medium-to-large capital projects. Strong hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation platforms , including ControlLogix and CompactLogix. Advanced PLC programming experience using Structured Text, Ladder Logic, SFC, and modular programming approaches. Experience with FactoryTalk View SE and manufacturing historians such as Historian SE or OSI PI. Knowledge of industrial networks and protocols including EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, AS-i, and VFDs . Experience integrating OT systems with IT infrastructure, including SQL databases, Active Directory, managed networks, and virtual environments. Experience with automation commissioning, validation, and startup support. Strong understanding of applicable electrical codes and standards, including NFPA, NEC, and ISA . Food manufacturing and utilities experience preferred, particularly exposure to HTST, CIP, and RO water systems . Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across Operations, Maintenance, IT, Engineering, and external vendors. A safety-first mindset with experience supporting compliance, risk assessments, and safe system design. Why Join? The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting new equipment startups, capital projects, automation upgrades, troubleshooting, and the continued modernization of the facility.
INDAF Pay:
$140,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
