An Electrical Substation Engineer is responsible for substation design including schematic development, physical layouts, equipment, and construction cost estimates.
Torrance, CA (on-site only) About the Opportunity Our client is an early-stage aerospace company building resilient, autonomous spacecraft designed to safeguard critical orbital assets and ensure freedom of action in space. Backed by seed funding, the company integrates advanced autonomy, sensing, and control into flight-critical systems and is preparing to fly its first spacecraft this year. The Role We're seeking a Power Systems Engineer to lead the development, analysis, integration, and performance of spacecraft electrical power systems. You'll own power budgets across all mission phases, drive solar array and battery sizing, energy balance analysis, and state-of-charge modeling, and manage the interfaces between power and every other subsystem — avionics, propulsion, GN&C, payloads, and flight computers. Key Responsibilities Own spacecraft power budgets across nominal, contingency, and degraded operations Develop and maintain power system architectures and requirements Perform solar array/battery sizing, energy balance analysis, state-of-charge modeling Define interfaces between power and other spacecraft subsystems Support design trades involving power, mass, thermal, and operational constraints Support hardware integration, environmental testing, and verification Investigate and resolve power system anomalies during test and flight Qualifications B.S. or higher in EE, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related field 5+ years of spacecraft electrical power system experience Experience with spacecraft batteries, solar arrays, power management electronics, distribution architectures Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, Excel, STK, or equivalent Small satellite or national security space experience preferred Requirements On-site only, US citizenship required, TS/SCI eligible desired
