Job Description
Substation Commissioning Engineer We are seeking a Commissioning Engineer to support substation projects across Colorado. This role focuses on final testing, validation, and energization of substation systems. Responsibilities Support commissioning efforts in greenfield and brownfield substations. Perform protection and controls testing and validation. Review and execute relay testing and logic verification. Work with three-phase electrical systems. Provide final sign-off prior to energization of substations and equipment. Essential Skills 5+ years of experience in substation commissioning. Hands-on experience in commissioning and final energization support. Strong experience in protection & controls testing. Experience with relay testing and logic verification. Solid understanding of three-phase electrical systems. Ability to take ownership of final checks before energization. Additional Skills & Qualifications Electrical engineering degree preferred (PE strongly preferred). Sr. relay technicians with 10-15+ years of experience considered in lieu of degree. Substation design experience. Relay setting development. Project leadership exposure. Work Environment This role requires travel across Colorado, typically for short durations of up to 2 weeks at a time, with approximately 60% of the work based in the Denver Metro area. The position involves working in live, high-impact environments at the final stages of energization. Candidates must be comfortable with fieldwork. The role offers a clear path into leadership roles such as Project Manager, Field Service Manager, and Operations. Relocation and sign-on bonus are available for strong candidates, and there is a mix of local (Denver Metro) and travel assignment Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Centennial, CO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $80.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
