Job Description

Overview Kimley-Horn's Greenwood Village, Colorado (CO) office is seeking an Electrical Engineer specializing in advanced power system studies, with a strong focus on electromagnetic transient and dynamic simulations, to join our growing Power Delivery team in Denver, CO. This role supports utility-scale generation, BESS, substations, and data center projects, with an emphasis on evaluating system performance under transient and dynamic conditions. Responsibilities Perform EMT simulations in PSCAD for renewable generation, BESS, and hybrid systems Conduct dynamic (RMS) studies using PSS®E or equivalent tools Analyze and simulate: Temporary Overvoltages (TOV) Transient Recovery Voltage (TRV) Switching transients and fault response Load rejection and load ramp events Interpret and apply applicable standards Prepare technical reports and study documentation with clear methodologies and conclusions Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams Qualifications 4+ years experience in an Electrical Engineering role in Power System Studies Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months) Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's Degree Preferred)
Understanding of:
Transient and dynamic system behavior Protection coordination and system response during faults Familiarity with interconnection and grid compliance studies Proficiency in:
PSCAD PSS
®E Ability to work in a team; both collaborating with and mentoring junior staff Preferred Experience with hybrid systems (BESS + generation + large loads) Exposure to data center or industrial load modeling Experience with additional tools such as
ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower Knowledge of:
IEEE 2800 IEEE 1547
Utility-specific interconnection requirements (e.g., ERCOT, WECC, BPA)
Salary Range:
