Due to continued growth, our Power Delivery group is seeking a Substation Engineer - Physical Design in one of the following office locations: Dallas, TX Houston, TX Orlando, FL Tampa, FL Palm Beach Gardens, FL Overland Park, KS Kennesaw, GA Remote #LI-MB1 Responsibilities Imagine a day where you're designing the backbone of the power grid—drafting substation layouts, running protection and grounding analyses, and fine-tuning relay settings that keep energy flowing safely. You collaborate with engineers across disciplines, solve real-world challenges, and see your designs come to life in the field. Every detail you contribute will help power entire communities—safely, reliably, and sustainably.
Substation Design & Drafting :
Develop electric substation drawings, including General Arrangments , Elevations, Conduit Plans/Details, Grounding Plans/Details, Foundation Plans, Lightning Protection plans , and control building layouts. Work closely with the Civil Engineering department to develop substation foundation and structure detail drawingsEngineering Analysis & Calculations :
Perform substation design calculations and analysis such as ground grid analysis and design, lightning protection, voltage drop, and conduit fill.Technical Documentation & Specifications :
Develop technical equipment and construction specifications and work scopesCollaboration & Quality Assurance :
Work closely with peers to ensure accurate and on-time delivery of electrical design that meets client and industry standards, specifications, and good engineering practicesField Support :
Providing on-site technical support for select ENERCON clients during construction and commissioning as required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university Minimum of 6 years of experience in Substation engineering, with a primary focus on executing substation physical design projects Non-senior roles will be considered with 3+ years of experience Familiarity with substation physical design parameters and associated information needed to complete design Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD Strong familiarity with NESC, IEEE, and other applicable codes and standards Willingness to enter energized electric substations with proper training and PPE Must be self-driven in time management to meet deadlines and provide accurate deliverables , with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders Must be proficient with typical office software including Microsoft Windows and Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Willingness to travel for client site visits and project meetings Preferred Qualifications Experience working in electric utility industry, preferably in fast-paced consulting environment 500kV substation engineering experience Professional Engineer (PE) license, with active NCEES record for reciprocity Field testing/commissioning experience AutoCAD Electrical design experience Pay Range USD $93,100.00 - USD $170,000.00 /Yr.
