Job Description

Role Overview We are currently seeking a dedicated full-time System Engineer to join our team. This position focuses on the startup, commissioning, and performance optimization of high-end CNC machine tools within a premier industrial manufacturing setting. As the technical lead, you will guide CNC equipment from its initial power-up through to full production status. Your primary duties involve resolving complex issues across electrical, motion, servo, and control systems to ensure all machinery meets rigorous quality and performance standards. We are looking for a hands-on professional who enjoys tackling intricate technical problems and is prepared for frequent travel to manage customer installations.
Employment Status:
Full-Time Core Responsibilities Oversee the entire CNC machine commissioning lifecycle, from initial activation to final customer acceptance. Configure CNC control systems by loading necessary software and setting machine parameters. Optimize multi-axis motion control systems by troubleshooting both closed-loop and open-loop configurations. Improve overall machine output by performing precise axis calibration, servo tuning, and geometry compensation. Identify and rectify faults within pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and control systems. Verify and interpret fluid power and electrical schematics to ensure accurate system implementation. Ensure the safety and operational readiness of equipment to help maintain a secure environment for all end-users. Provide ongoing field service, startup guidance, and warranty support to ensure long-term machine reliability. Facilitate knowledge transfer by training customers and mentoring junior engineers during project phases. Maintain detailed records of commissioning tasks, performance metrics, and technical resolutions. Work alongside manufacturing and engineering departments to foster successful project outcomes and resolve technical hurdles. Support global and domestic customer sites through extensive travel, representing up to 75% of the role. Required Qualifications At least 3 years of professional experience in automation, controls engineering, or CNC machine commissioning. Proven ability to independently manage and resolve complex commissioning challenges from start to finish. Solid background in ladder logic and PLC programming troubleshooting. Practical understanding of DC and AC electrical systems. Proficiency in reading and applying hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical diagrams. Skilled in using diagnostic tools such as multimeters for electrical testing. Experience working with major control platforms like Fanuc, Beckhoff, or Siemens. Deep understanding of machine automation and servo-driven motion control. Strong analytical capabilities for effective root cause identification and troubleshooting. Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences, including operators and engineering staff. Capacity to handle multiple project priorities in a fast-paced industrial setting. Flexibility to travel domestically and internationally for up to 75% of the time. Dedication to maintaining a safe workspace by strictly following LOTO protocols and PPE requirements. Preferred Qualifications Background in precision machine alignment and CNC geometry compensation. Advanced expertise in multi-axis motion optimization and servo drive tuning. Experience with performance calibration and CNC parameter refinement. Familiarity with robotic platforms such as KUKA or ABB. Knowledge of automated quality inspection and vision systems. Exposure to Industry 4.0, smart manufacturing, and IIoT concepts. Understanding of risk assessment, SIL standards, and machine safety protocols. Location and Travel Details Primary location is Rockford, IL. Significant travel, both domestic and international, is required at a 75% rate. The role provides support to customer facilities across North America and international locations.
Compensation and Perks Salary range:
$97,000 - $120,000. Includes travel-related incentives and exposure to cutting-edge manufacturing technology. Offers a pathway for rapid professional development through intensive, hands-on commissioning experience.
