$29.40-$35.60/hour About Our Client Our client is a not-for-profit wholesale electric cooperative providing electricity to member-owner distribution cooperatives throughout Minnesota. The organization supports reliable electric service across the state through its generation and transmission operations and offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working alongside professionals in the electric utility industry. Job Summary We are seeking a Substation Engineering Intern to provide engineering support to design engineers working on substation projects. This internship offers hands-on experience supporting capital project design, engineering studies, system modeling, and the development of substation standards. The position is based at the headquarters facility in Maple Grove, MN. Most work will be performed in an office environment, with some opportunities to support field activities at construction sites. The intern may also complete independent assignments of limited scope and duration under the guidance of experienced engineering professionals. Key Responsibilities Assist Substation Engineering with capital project designs in accordance with established standards. Prepare project estimates and assist with establishing project schedules. Support the development of project design specifications. Prepare bills of materials for procurement. Assist with the development of construction drawings. Support relay settings and protection coordination activities. Review and update as-built drawings. Assist with engineering studies and evaluations related to substation design under close supervision. Assist with engineering database and system model updates associated with system-wide assets. Support the development and maintenance of substation engineering design standards. Qualifications Currently enrolled in a computer engineering or electrical engineering program at an accredited college or university. Knowledge of basic engineering principles. Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, and SharePoint. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate effectively with team members and other stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Ability to remain productive and business focused. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment. You must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring immigration sponsorship now or in the future. This includes holders of H-1B, H4, L-1, L-2, TN, OPT, CPT, and other nonimmigrant visas. Working Conditions Most work is performed in a normal office environment, with some work performed in the field at construction sites. Office work may involve extended periods working at a computer station. Field work may require appropriate personal protective equipment and adherence to site safety requirements. Eligibility for hybrid work may be available following successful integration into the role and at management's discretion. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position. Internship Schedule Full-time, 40 hours per week during the summer. Monday-Friday schedule. Full-time hours during academic breaks may be available. Part-time hours of 10+ hours per week during the academic year. Continuation in the internship program is based on performance and business needs.
