Job Description

Job Overview Infinite Energy Engineering is seeking experienced Substation Protections and Controls (P&C) Engineers (1) entry level and (2) with 3+ years experience, to join our dynamic Transmission and Distribution Engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in substation design, protection and controls engineering, and project coordination for projects ranging from 12.47 kV to 500 kV. This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse substation configurations, lead technical deliverables, and collaborate with clients, vendors, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities Protection and Controls Design:
Develop and review P&C deliverables, including One-line diagrams AC/DC schematics Wiring diagrams Relay rack elevations Trip/lockout schemes Communication diagrams
Engineering Calculations:
Perform and oversee calculations, including; Voltage drops and station DC/AC loads Battery sizing, CT burden, conduit fill, and lightning protection analysis
Substation Configurations:
Work on a variety of substation designs, including: Ring bus, breaker-and-a-half, double bus double breaker, radial bus, and gas-insulated substations (GIS)
Project Coordination:
Collaborate with clients, vendors, and internal teams to: Define project scopes Prepare equipment specifications Ensure timely delivery of materials and engineering deliverables
Quality Assurance:
Conduct quality checks on P&C deliverables, implement best practices Mentor junior engineers or interns to maintain high standards
Procurement Support:
Assist in specifying and procuring major substation equipment, including: Breakers, relays, transformers, and bulk materials Ensure compliance with utility -specific standards.
Field and Commissioning Support:
Participate in site walkdowns, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and construction support Address design questions and construction phase challenges Hands-on filed involvement
Leadership and Client Engagement:
Lead small teams or oversee specific project components Interface with clients and stakeholders to ensure successful project execution
Qualifications Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of substation engineering experience, with a focus on protection and controls for high-voltage (HV) to extra-high-voltage (EHV) systems (12.47 kV to 500 kV)
Education:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university; candidates
Licensure:
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred, or actively pursuing P.E. certification
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in: AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, and Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams) Utility standards (e.g., First Energy and Evergy) and EPC project workflows
Core Competencies:
Strong understanding of P&C deliverables, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and relay coordination. Ability to perform and review electrical calculations and develop detailed cable/conduit schedules. Experience mentoring junior staff or leading small teams on substation projects. Excellent problem-solving skills for construction-phase challenges and client interfacing.
Preferred Experience:
Background in both greenfield and retrofit substation projects. Exposure to estimating, procurement, or construction scheduling for substation projects. $65,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
