Job Description

Job Description Insight Global is seeking an Overhead Transmission Line Design Engineer for a leading energy research organization. This individual will play a critical role in advancing grid reliability and modernization efforts by leading complex research initiatives and delivering innovative technical solutions. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in overhead transmission design, excels in project leadership, and thrives in collaborative environments with utilities and global industry partners. This is a high impact role for a seasoned engineer passionate about shaping the future of power transmission.
  •  Lead and manage large scale research projects focused on grid reliability and modernization
  •  Develop innovative technical solutions for complex transmission line challenges
  •  Perform advanced overhead line modeling and analysis using PLSCADD
  •  Collaborate with utilities, international partners, and internal cross functional teams
  •  Present research findings via reports, webcasts, workshops, and conferences
  •  Contribute to technical publications and industry standards
  •  Support new research initiatives and proposal efforts

  •  7+ years of experience in R D focused on overhead transmission line design
  •  Strong proficiency with PLSCADD and transmission line modeling tools
  •  Deep technical expertise in overhead conductors, structures, and line hardware
  •  Experience managing complex, multi disciplinary projects end to end
  •  Ability to work independently without direct supervision
  •  Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
  •  Bachelor's Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
  •  Willingness to travel
  •  Experience engaging with national and/or international technical networks
  •  Experience with emergency restoration and advanced transmission design practices
  •  Background presenting at industry conferences or authoring technical papers
  •  Familiarity with industry standards development
  •  Experience supporting proposal development or promotional technical work
  •  Ability to leverage AI tools / LLMs to enhance efficiency and problem solving
  •  Mentorship or leadership experience with junior engineers
